My travels came to a sudden halt a few months ago when a fierce storm churned the seas around our batterered ship in early December. This storm was of biblical proportions, our ship was no match, and we were shipwrecked on an unknown island. The captain and top crewman died in the seas when we crashed, and around half of my fellow sailors were slaughtered in the storm we now refer to as "God's cleansing". With only a few of us sailers left, the first days on this desert island have been anything but plentiful. We should have never left our harbors...
The first days were a blur of panic, distress, confusion, and desperate tear filled prayers to God, begging for a miracle. Among the confusion, a few of us decided to explore the island and take note of what we had to work with. After a week or two, the reality of the sitatuion was setting in, and depression was evident in everyone's sunken eyes. We drank out of sickly brown pools of water we found inland, and ate anything to suppress the agonizing internal growls. Physically, we could survive, we had the ingenuity and skills necessary for long term survival. Mentally, some of us weren't so lucky, some of the sailors would scream and curse god at night and it would die down into a low sob before silence, we'd often wake to some bodies in the water, they drowned themselves to escape the eternal suffering. Understandably, our moral was low.
The survival of the fittest determined who sits beside me now, we are the survivors-no-masters, of this island. We learned the ways of the tides, the secrets of the local growth, the arts of tool making, the methods of hunting. We have adapted and thrived. Some still struggle on this island, cursing God everyday for this punishment, but questioning God's motives are futile, pondering the ever prosperous old lands from months ago is pointless. These circumstances have been presented to us and this is what we must accept! The old lands are gone! This is our home and we must make it count!
In other words stop your whining ya sissy! :P
