I actually do,exactly the same: make a versatile army: where with tier 1 troops you can do collectors... While you still have enough punch to also do a storage raid.

    - i have one addition: i always end my army que with wizzards if I'm not raiding back to bakc... So these wizzies pre-cook and reduce cooking time for the 2nd raid.( which i usually do back to back)

by the way : also the following army is versatile for collectors and storage raids:

    1 giant
    20 arch
    5-10 barbs
    50 minions
    Rest balloons ( 24-28)

use giant arch barb to check / kill clan castle and queen... ( no worries about the king..;-) Or... To pick some of the collectors.

use minions supporter by 1-2 balloons to pick collectors ...or ... Go in full with balloons and minions to get storages.

When doing this first time you will need some spels... (1 light/1-2 heal/1-2 rage)... But as you gain experience you can 3 star most th8's and ger 2 star th9 without any spels. ( ok except for clan Castle)

    cheers!
Thanks commenting! I usually do the same queue order each time, but can switch it up and do giants or wizards first if I'm using them and I know I will be spending my whole army. It really depends on trophy range for me, as I don't use all of my expensive troops in Gold 2, but will in crystal 3.

As for the alternative army composition, that's too many spaces, even for a TH10. 50 minions and 24 balloons is 220 spaces. I do like the modified balloonion composition though. I will occassionally swap a loon with a giant in my build to help pull cc troops and aq. It's not always easy to pull them with loons/minions. I think for lower trophy levels though, that's an expensive/long build. I like using it in mid-high crystal leagues, where loot is good, and a 34k-55k loot bonus is yours with a victory. Makes the build time more worth it imo.

You're right that BAM is still better in farmig gold. But I'm thinking to use your army composition to farm dark elixir when I reach TH9. With that being said how do you think they will fair?

I like this build for DE raids. It's fairly quick, doesn't rely on spells, and doesn't cost any DE. I've used it to raid from 1650-2100 and it works in all ranges. It gives you flexibility to get to a DE storage that's in the core, or use less troops and pick off a perimeter storage. If you get your giants/archers/barbs up to lvl 6 quickly, you can be a very effective DE farmer as an early TH9.
