There are three things I notice with this update, and the net result is positive for me. I approve.
First thing is the hero abilities, I always loved the concept of heroes and for me this is one of the most exciting additions to the game since the heroes themselves. It makes raiding a little more active and heroes a little more relevant, though it's too soon for me to say how it affects the landscape of game play in general. I just like it.
Second thing is something that didn't happen. No new Gold/Elixer collector levels is pretty disappointing for me, I feel like there are getting to be more of us at Town Halls 8 and 9 (9 in my case) who didn't get where we are on raw raiding prowess alone, but with a mix of raiding and collecting. That's my preferred play style and I loved that it worked at lower Town Hall levels, but since reaching Town Hall 8 or so it hasn't felt like collectors were pulling their weight anymore and I'm tired of not having anything more to do on any given day than upgrade a couple wall pieces.
I think more casual players like myself are of great benefit to the game, because after we upgrade our collectors that lets people who are focused on raiding get more loot from us while still allowing us to participate in the game. I'd love to be able to participate again even though I can't swing hours of back-to-back raids.
Third thing is the additional gem income from clearing obstacles. I really appreciate that, it doesn't seem like a lot, but it's a nice gesture and with luck it'll add up enough for me to be able to gem something that currently raiding doesn't get me the resources to build normally.

- great analysis.
