HayDay Mysteries - what happens next for our wee Aunty Hilda ...

For Chapter #1 of the HayDay Mysteries go to - http://forum.supercell.net/showthrea...ing-Aunt-Hilda

Fred had the first meeting of the HayDay Astronomy Club today. They met on the slope above the brook. There was a good turn out, although it may have been more effective if he had called the meeting for after dark. Being too bright, they couldnt see much in the skies apart from an old crow flying about. So Mr Snow suggested spying on the neighbours (must be his P.I. background) while Fred, being the upright and law abiding citizen that he is, put the kibosh on that.

Luckily he didnt turn the telescope around to the south east otherwise he may have spied his Aunt Hilda having another secret liason with Corporal Fritz.

Mr Snows younger brother Mr Snow was trying his hand at fishing, although he is going to have a bit of trouble unless he holds the line over the water.

Summer is hoping he lands a nice fat Spotted Sunfish. Mr Snow is a slow sort of chap and Summer is a fast wee girl who grabs an opportunity when it presents itself.

Fred, the Goatherder is at his post and a little too far away to hear what was being said by Hilda and Fritz.

Now nephew Fred would not describe himself as a old fashioned kind of guy, but he draws the line with this young buck making advances to his middle aged spinster Aunt. His wife Hilda on the other hand thinks he should lighten up a bit, but it is hard to teach an old gnome new tricks.

With disapproving eyes forever present, Fritz and Hilda look for quiet places at which to meet. Little do they know that prying eyes and lose tongues are soon to pass by.

Although Fritz is 20 years younger than Hilda there is something about the way she wears her hat that has caught his fancy. He also has a bit of a thing for a well starched apron. Maybe he is looking for a mother figure. Growing up in an orphanage, motherless, it is easy to think that this is all there is to it. But Fritz also admires Hilda and her determination to become an ironwoman. It is what first attracted him to her. She cuts a fine figure in her lycra cycling shorts and while she cant reach the pedals of her bike, she can coast down hill quite comfortably. So under the guise of giving Hilda some cycling lessons, he has been getting closer to the enigma that is Aunty Hilda, and is finding that he likes what he sees.

Back in Norway when Hilda was a young wee gnome, she had a suitor called Aksel, a young Norwegian fisherman. They were childhood sweethearts and were engaged to be married, but one day Aksel was out on his boat when a bad storm blew in from the North Sea. His boat washed up on shore two days later but Aksel was never seen again and Hilda's heart was broken.

She buttoned up her smock, put extra starch in her apron and closed her heart off from the rest of the world, never thinking she could have feelings for anyone again. She lived alone in the cottage where she and Aksel were going to live in when they married. Even though it had memories of Aksel, she couldn't let go of the hope he would turn up on her doorstep one day.

Over time, Hilda began to give up hope and devoted her life to looking after her elderly parents.

After many years her family decided they needed to free Hilda from her heartbroken past and that she needed to live her life and not spend it as a recluse. So they pooled their savings together and sent her off to HayDayland to join her nephew Fred and his wife Hilda on the farm, in the hope that new surroundings and a goal of competing in an ironwoman competition, would give her a new lease on life, or at the very least good glutes.

Little was she expecting to have the small buds of romance begin to blossom in her heart.

    To be continued.....

Keeping my fingers crossed that things work out for Aunt Hilda and Fritz...the poor dear deserves some happiness (or least well toned glutes) after the tragedy that has shadowed her past.

Not surprised in the least to see Mary P. spying on the pair, the nosey old thing! If I read one unkind word from her poison pen in the DD about those two, I shall never sell her so much as single stalk of wheat again! ...and it causes me concern that she was so conveniently in Greg's proximity just when Shea said she was going to absent for a while. Given the history between them, she may be thinking of making hay and attempting to rekindle an old romance during Shea's vacation. Sounds as though we'll have to get Tilly to keep a close eye on her for us!

I'm so glad to see that the overtures from Aunt Hilda toward Fritz have been accepted by him...he has so kindly averted any of them from other older women. Obviously, he sees all of Aunt Hilda's great qualities.

I had no idea Aunt Hilda had previously been engaged. Poor Aunt Hilda, and poor Aksel. I wonder if he actually made it through the horrible storm, but when he came to, he had amnesia and was unable to remember anything...about who he was or that he was engaged to Hilda. I know it may be a long shot, but you never know....or maybe I just watch too much TV...LOL!

I noticed the same thing you did, LadyJEM...Mary P. walking past Aunt Hilda and Fritz's rendezvous and trying to slyly overhear their conversation, as well as trying to position herself in Greg's path while Shea is gone. Even if she tries to win Greg back, I'm pretty sure he will squash her overtures and be ready to resume his relationship with Shea upon her return.

Jude, I had no idea that Fred started an Astronomy Club! I wonder if my teenagers might find this interesting, however, I would need to have someone escort them to the meetings and back...can't trust that they wouldn't run off somewhere and claim to have attended the meeting, just as they claimed to have been stargazing the night of your New Year's Eve party. Do you think Mr. Snow or his younger brother would be up for the task?

I think Fritz is attracted to Hilda's doggered determination and commitment to be an iron woman. What with the early morning swims up and down the river, the downhill cycling and the running up and down the driveway he has seen a side of Hilda that he admires. Its not easy with short legs. He also likes her sense of humour and her preference for a well crafted beer over the bland generic stuff. Fritz comes from a long line of home brewers and him and Hilda have been spending many an evening sampling his latest concoction which he has called Hilda's Head Turner.

With Aksel's body never recovered no one can say for sure that he died in that nasty storm of 1984.

Knitgal I am sure Mr Snow will take you teenagers in hand. He has a military background and is a very staunch sort and will most definitely keep them in line. He could put them to work on fox patrol and eviction if they play up, and that is no easy feat, there is often a lot of heavy lifting involved.

Knitgal, it never even occurred to me that there's a remote possibility Askel may have survived....

Imagine the angst which would befall Aunt Hilda if suddenly he reappeared in her life after all these years just as she seems to be rediscovering the bloom of passion with Fritz.

Would the storm tossed young lovers of yore be reunited or would they realize fate had caused their parting for unfathomable reasons? Would Fritz step aside or would he fight for his claim on Hilda's heart?

Sounds as if the next chapter of Down On The Farm is unfolding right before our eyes!

That sounds positively wonderful! Let me know when the next meeting will take place and I will have my teenagers ready when Mr. Snow comes to pick them up.

LadyJEM, that's one reason I mentioned anything about the possibility that Aksel could still be alive and possibly find Aunt Hilda all the way over on Jude's farm...what a difficult position that could put everyone in, but it would be wonderful to see how it all played out.
