8 months?? Second star on both of them is 840 hours, that's 35 days. I'm about to hit my second star on the net maker. Maybe you meant 3rd star??

Correction: The Lure Workbench and Net Maker Masteries are 8 months away from the second star, and that's going 24/7..!!

I have the smelters all fully expanded, simply because it's a place to store ore that's not my barn. That's why I have most of my machines fully expanded: storage that's not the barn. The jam maker is not fully expanded, because fruit is stored on the bush or in the silo, not the barn.

The drawback, of course, is that if you have all slots full, it can take a long time to switch gears and make something else if a boat comes in and wants something you're not making. With the smelters, that's not really an issue. Since you can have 5, and there are only 3 products, you can have one dedicated to each type of bar. I have two making silver, two making gold, and one making platinum.

As for my unrealistic goal...I want to max out my barn. I'm a little over 1000 now - a far cry from my goal of 10,000, but hope springs eternal!
