Why assume that these tactics are 'mistakes'?

Everyone who traps their town hall that I've spoken to does it for one reason or another. Collectors are left out and storages are protected, surely that seems a normal thing to do.
Inactive ... well real farmers are never inactive, some wake up in the middle of the night to collect their storages before their shield runs. If a farmer truly goes inactive, they've quit playing, hence they no longer care.

Your title is actually misleading... if anything you are pointing out flaws in base design as you perceive them. Not a single one of your points is an actual mistake as such. People play the game in different ways...let them!

Oh and of course...lets see your base then...should be just about perfect eh?

On the other side, when I attack completely unprotected TH it makes it easier for me to go after the rest of the base because I know I don't have to worry about losing any cups if the raid goes badly, i.e. <49%. I think you can be right about how protecting an exposed TH can take away from the rest of the base defense, but my experience has been that done properly you can protect your base and lure people into attacking your protected TH most of the time.
Most players use TH sniping to balance out their trophy levels to stay at their preffered level, on many occasion I have done this, but when players feel the need to use traps and teslas on their exposed TH, then I opt to give you a 50% sheild, rather than an easy 2%.

Your not talking as a farmer, your talking as a trophy hunter, which then means your in the wrong thread, as farmers care about three things, Gold, Dark Elixir and sometimes elixir, and they welcome a free no hassle sheild.
Probably a higher level, a higher Townhall, better walls and better heros.

Farmers do care about trophies. The range you're in determine everything, offense, army composition, and defense layout. Currently I'm at gold I, and at that range there're a lot of weak townhall climbing up to crystal by sniping townhall. I believe my base is strong enough to withstand someone who has the wrong sense of his ability.

Leaving your townhall completely open without defense doesn't save you from getting attack either. Sure it maximized the chance of low townhall to give you free shield, but it decrease the chance of weakening strong enemy army. By the time they decided to drop everything on you, it's the same as putting your townhall inside. The only difference is that you've already lost 1 star.

Climbing is always harder than dropping, leaving a few tesla out there to increase the chance of weak players coming to snipe townhall to fail. That's easy cup gaining aka, no effort in maintaining the cup. Most of the time people go all the way to try to take the townhall just so that they can have a guaranteed 1 star win. This forces them to drop a chunk of their army to target the townhall. By the time they're angry and decide to drop the rest of their army on the base, they've already failed the battle. So they'll stop there.

There'll be cases when people stop attacking townhall completely and change to another direction, but I put the majority of my traps at those direction. So yeah, my base is still balance, even when I put my teslas outside.

However, the biggest reason for me to leave my teslas out, is to troll, .

With that being said, I'm not a fan of putting traps outside the townhall, 'cus a few barbs will detonate them all, totally not worth it.

Yes. As a farmer, you care about trophies, but they aren't prioritized. Your range is extremely important. In 1700s+, there is great DE, but I struggle getting gold. In the 1500s, there is great gold IMO, but low in DE.

And yes, trolling is fun, but in my base, my teslas and traps are extremely vital for my base.

No doubt about it, tesla is one of the best defense in the game. At higher trophy range I don't put my tesla randomly, but I wouldn't put them far inside either.

Probably different from many people here, I view my teslas as traps due to them being hidden. The main use of my teslas is to trick hoggers who think they can lure out my CC. This strategy never fail me even at master (as a th9). But I can imagine the point where I have to centralize them to offer maximum protection for my townhall.

It really depends on the range. My tesla can be inside or out side walls, even at near the side margin, where people use tier 1 troop to lure my CC & King Queen.
