Ladies and gentlemen. I present to you, the new mastermind.
There been a few times I desperately needed to send some sort of private message so I support the idea.
Holy cow! This is an awesome thread! I would love this idea, especially when I want to talk to my friend's in private. But in my opinion, this could be too complicated. Too much server space, etc. I say eliminate some of the complications. Maybe you have to accept a private chat? That way most people would only accept those they know, not random strangers in global. Also, why can't anyone start a private chat? If you have to accept a private chat, anybody should be able to start a chat.
This is a very well presented thread! I think private messaging in clans would reduce the activity in the main clan chat so I am not very keen on the idea but I really liked the pictures!

Saltin, Fantastic post. absolutely well done.
The in clan chat is something I feel has been missing from the game for some time. Here was the post I made before I found this one which explains all of my reasons for wanting the clan direct messaging.
The idea is to allow direct messaging within a clan. For instance, if a member wants to tell a leader they will be away for some time. Many long chats on the clan chat can cause important information to get lost. Another example would be if two leaders or elders wanted to discuss keeping/kicking a member without that member knowing. I would also like to be able to warn someone that their behavior is unacceptable without having to call them out to the whole clan or kick them.
Those are just a few examples of where direct messaging would be useful. Communication is key in any game with multiple people working together, and CoC is no different.
Messages from leaders to the whole clan already have a timeout function where they are removed after some time. I am sure SC is not sure how much extra space these messages would take on a server, but I feel the benefits outweigh the difficulty. As a clan leader, I found my only current solution was to sign up for a separate forum and beg people to join it as well. So far it has proved useful, but not everyone wants to join another site just to get CoC information.
I anticipate that direct messaging outside of a clan can lead to a much bigger concern, which is why I am NOT suggesting direct messaging outside of your own clan(no matter how much I'd like to compliment someone on their cool layout). I am merely advocating communication within a clan setting.
Great idea. My clanmates and I had the same idea. Can't wait till they make it happen.
