I think free is not suitable in the situation and as I know coc team had made this for dark elixier use as top players overflow with dark So they need some way to use that dark elixier.

It is free. By using the spell you avoid paying the 25k dark.

Edit: maybe I misunderstood, did you mean why not just free all the time? As noted by Zai34, part of the reason for having supertroops is for players with maxed heroes/troops to have something to spend dark on.

Yeah Using Super portion doesn't require dark elixier I think it work like hammers

Does it really matter if you can stack them or wait until they expire before using again?

I'm not sure that's true? Stacking doesn't increase the per potion time benefit as far as I know

It isn't... it's an hour and an hour, not a minute more...

For what reason exactly? What would be the gain?

The "gain" is that you don't have to use it again when it expires, it will just roll over. That can be useful with things like builder potions and resource potions.

But with this potion. that has the rather obvious downside that you aren't taking full advantage if the first one would have expired when you weren't active.
