I believe the iTunes card currency have to match the account trying to redeem it.

You have to have a US account to redeem the card. You can make accounts from other countries relatively easily though, do a search on Google for info.

He could redeem it if he opened a Canadian Itunes account, but he wouldn't for instance be able to use that credit to buy gems for a CoC village on his Australian Itunes account.

Yes I believe he would be able to use it, just change your region on your Itunes account to where ever the gift card was purchased.

Its how I downloaded boom beach when it was only released in Canada.

Why not just change store? I live in PH and bought my $20 worth of iTunes US GC
