    "Too much loot"? Please.

I'm creating a new thread for this post/reply I made a bit earlier because, apparently, if I respond to old threads that I find via web search, they get closed. Mods, you might want to re-think that policy, by the way, as people find threads relevant to this way all the time.

A quote from a few months ago, one that is still -- perhaps even more -- relevant:

I would just like to point out that: a) this statement is utter nonsense with regard to CoC players, as obtaining loot to build upgrades is one of the foremost reasons we play the game (it isn't a good thing to SC from a profit standpoint, I will give you that) and b) regardless of the aforementioned, we are now so incredibly far from having "too much loot" in the game that to use such an argument is uncalled for.

If I found a 200+/200+ base on a single search every time, sure, we'd be at that point. Even if I found a great base to raid after only 5-10 searches every time, I suppose one could argue that we'd be in a "too much loot" situation, although it should certainly be noted that a good/loot-rich base *appearing* is not the same as a player obtaining all of said loot.

Where we stand right now, however, is nowhere near the above low-search-time hypothetical. So many clanmates and fellow forum posters I see are regularly spending 100+K gold and upwards of 10+ minutes per search to find a single base with 200/200 and/or a setup viable for attack by their army compositions. To me, a search of 10-20 "nexts", perhaps even passing a base or two with good loot but a strong defense (or one not easily defeated by the attacker's army) during that time, seems completely reasonable and should be the goal.

The fact of the matter is that the insanely long and costly search times, most notably for TH10 by far, are killing interest in the game. If players can't farm at a reasonable rate, many will stop playing. I understand -- essentially everyone who posts here does, too -- that SC wants people to buy gems, but sucking the game dry of any loot and making progression slow to molasses is not the way to do it. I have numerous IRL friends who have quit playing CoC largely for this reason. Know how much money SC is making off them? ZILCH.

Two simple ways to encourage gem-spending would be: 1) make farming more reasonable again which would increase game morale/interest and allow more players to achieve competitive trophy levels where gem-spending to fill clan castles, heal heroes, and train troops actually becomes relevant and 2) decrease boost costs to reasonable rates and/or continue doing "boost discounts," like over the holidays, more frequently. I, for one, spent more gems during the December/January boost discount than during the previous 3-4 months combined because it actually provided substantial cost:benefit value.

In short, however, the extreme time and gold commitment required by the new loot system is simply ludicrous. It must be fixed if SC wishes for CoC to remain relevant and popular in the long-term.

    Here is the full quote:

"They have always (or at least for a very long time) had a system for removing inactive accounts from matchmaking. To be fair, though, there is a need to remove these accounts. While we can certainly complain about too little loot, too much loot isn't a good thing either. Whether or not they strengthened this or not is difficult to prove, but either way the storage change is more important. Needless to say at this point, I'm not a fan of the update loot changes."

Context is key; I by no means think we are anywhere near having "too much loot", then or now. Reading the full quote makes it obvious I was merely arguing (almost 8 months ago) that it is a theoretical possibility, which it most certainly is. I don't see any need for even bringing my statement up in this context, as I was referring to hypotheticals, not reality.

Your not forced to click on them and most certainly don't have to post in them.

    Hi Zach,

Thanks for responding. I do apologize for not providing the full quote, as you correctly note that the context is important for that discussion.

Just as a note, I did not intend to call you out specifically here so much as to make a statement about a quote/idea I've seen used numerous times in the forums as defense for various loot changes. I probably should have found a similar quote from Steve a while back, but I just so happened to find the quote above in a thread I found via web search. I did not take note of the date on it, ergo my response in that thread.

I'm glad you agree that we are not near this point, and I hope that the SC staff members do, as well. I do wish, however, because we are indeed so laughably far removed from such a situation, that a hyperbolic statement like that not be used in discussions about the loot system.

I've certainly commented several times on the now-167(!)-page-and-still-growing thread about the loot changes, as well as many others. Trust me: I hate seeing so much conversation about it, too. I imagine SC does, as well.

The onus is not, however, on forum members to just stop posting about legitimate complaints and problems with the game simply because it's crowding the forum. The buck stops with SC because they are the ones who need to improve this aspect of their game. Fix the problem --> complaints go away (at least on a level this voluminous and pervasive). Problem solved.

What really irks me is that threads about problems with the loot system are being lumped into the gargantuan sticky thread, probably to make it seem as though it's not as enormous a problem as it actually is.

What's your TH level? I am TH10, and every other TH10 I talk to has this same problem most of the time.

I have farmed from 1500-2400 over the past month, with 5-6 different types of armies. I made a statement yesterday that applies to this:

It doesn't matter what trophy level you are. 1500-1800 is tons of searching and occasionally a good base, usually just an okay one. 1800-2200 is still tons of searching, generally better loot, but more expensive armies and some loot lost on defense from strong armies attacking you. 2200+ is less searching and better loot but even more expensive armies, plus getting more loot stolen from even stronger armies attacking you.

The net result is the same: boring, tedious farming at TH10.

I'm all for having to work for my upgrades, but spending 100+K gold and 10+ minutes per search to find a viable option has become beyond tiresome.
