I think there is a need for a level 12 Gold Storage and Elixir Storage or a fifth of them because if you are in a high level, you get a lot of resources and the storages might be full. Some upgrades are also very expensive and there should be more space in the storages than an upgrade can cost. This have been like this since the start of the game and it's time for a little change I think.
Yes you are right, most building are reaching the max gold capacity which is 8 million. So there is no room for future upgrades and additions unless larger storges are added

No. Bigger storages means less loot because it will concentrate more loot in fewer villages. The only reason to add bigger storages is if they make buildings that cost more than 8m.

1) High level farmers would be hoarding even more of the loot, the caps allow for more even distribution between everyone.
2) It would open the door for even more expensive upgrades, $8 million for one building it more than enough.
Agree with daz258; more loot stored means more expensive upgrades.
