Gold League 3 with 7 of 8 clans making sure they don't finish 1st or 2nd. We had to not attack on one day or we for sure would be going to 2 which was a fecal-spectacle last month that cost the low THs hundreds of CWL medals.
Really wish advancing was optional to avoid the necessary sandbagging.
Whats harm in this ?
If you think gold 2 is tough for your clan then just go for medals. You will automatically be demoted there if your clan is not perfect for that leauge.
Btw, what is your clan's th composition and what is the typical roster in gold leauge. I have been in masters for so long seeing all th13's that I don't know what is the rosters of leauge like gold, silver nd bronze. Just asking for knowledge![]()
GL3 was all 12/13 with active clans.
GL2 is a smattering of 12's with a few 10's and lots of 9's.
The problem is when we moved to 2 our low bases couldn't get stars - we lost over 400 medals combined for the bases that need them most. We dropped back down and if we went straight at it would finish second and be in same spot next month.
We are 1 rushed 12 (troop donator the rest of month) 1 -11 mid-max 1-10 mid-max 8-9's at various stages 3-8's and 1-7
We are 127-18-5 in regular wars so keeping balance to juice the system is what we do best.
I would suggest "hundreds of medals" is an exaggeration, or you mean throughout the entire roster.
Gold 1 medal range is 184 down to 156, in 4 medal per place increments..
Gold 2 is 160 for first, down to 132 for last, also with 4 per place differential.
Anyone enlisted gets 20% of the final total, plus 10% for each star up to 8 maximum.
2 guaranteed bonus awards plus 1 per win.. 55 medals per reward for G2 and 60 for G1.
With that said, where is the value in sandbagging?
A clan that sandbags is depriving everybody other than those whom cant hack it from gaining extra reward..
The better players could earn more elsewhere, and so too could those that are warming the bench.
I/We/Our clan learned soon as they changed the reward scheme away from personal stars, that the only way is to push as high as possible.. We may fail and fall back down, but it wont be thru sandbagging.
Of course the "need to be winning" mentality can play its part, and what better way than to play in an easy tier for ones clan.
Excuses or poor management in my view, given the numbers.
We struggle to survive in crystal 1.. 4x th13s, 5x th12s, and a 10 at the bottom in the 15v war size is pathetic for that tier..
Maybe not everybody will get their 8 stars.. But we keep pushing regardless.
Below gold 1, there are still rosters containing a few higher halls, even some with several.
The biggest difference, they dont tend to be max, they dont tend to be very active, and they are mingled with lower halls in a mixed roster.
Playing skill and a strong positive approach tends to drop off the lower you go down the ladder too, with those that have the weight, but the roster is simply too light to go anywhere for many/most.

Happy to see when there is competition between mixed halls. Stratagies like Dip attacks and lower halls clearing upper halls must be fun for all the competitive clans.
I am certainly in a position with my clan where fun is least. We are not maxed that we can be competitive and try to go to master 2 or higher. Attacking for 2 stars all the bases (exception of 3 star if base is low or th12) and managing to stay in master 3 is all boring![]()
