Lagging game, multiple dropped connections, and news page won’t load.

    So...It’s gotten bad, again.

Ipad here. Yes it’s an older version, (Air or Air2?) but was newly replaced (not a rebuilt) about a year ago, if that.

    Yes, iOS is updated.
    Yes, HD is updated.
Yes there is tons of free space.
The Internet seems to be ok. Hard restart router occasionally.

I often have chat lag on me a bit in Clash but only rarely lose connection. It’s 10x worse in HD (no I didn’t keep stats on that—it’s a figure of speech.) I had it drop three times on me last night while I tried to type a sentence. Gave up and messaged hoodie on Discord, lol.

i drop connection when switching between locations (valley, fishing, town, Greg’s, visiting friends, and a *lot when turning the page in the Daily Dirt, which takes *up to* 10 seconds to load the shop I clicked on. Sometimes the game crashes two or three times on the loading screen before reloading fully.

Now today I got the notification of something in the inbox. The Social tab worked, YouTube videos tab worked, but the News tab did not. Got a “loading” notice for a split second, then the whole thing went blank. This happened this morning, was like that this afternoon, and was still like that an hour ago.

I cant clear cache (that’s an Android thing?), and am trying to just clear some from HD only to see if that helps (I don’t want to lose my tabs, search history, saved passwords, etc. for everything).

The only thing I could find was an option to “offload” the app and redownload it from the App Store, which does not thrill me, lol. Idk if I have all my original info from downloading it years and years ago if something goes wonky in the process.

But again. It doesn’t happen much in Clash or at all in other things I use, so is it still a device issue?

    Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Works fine here. Have you tryed a new installation?
Has it happened only in specific times? Maybe server issue.

No, clearing cache is not just an Android thing. On iOS, however, it's called "App Data" which can be found in the device-storage settings.

(but I don't know if you can clear data for HD only, since my iPad hasn't been used for quite a while…)

No, I’ve been avoiding uninstalling and reinstalling it in case I do it wrong and lose it, lol.
The dropped connections happen seemingly randomly. I don’t chat in HD during the day, so I only notice that lag in typing in the evening.

I’ll try to upload a screenshot this evening or if that process doesn’t work for me, I’ll write down the steps I have. Thanks guys.

If you've got it linked with Supercell ID, there ought to be no hiccups -- it's like digital-powercycling, fixes most issues with ease.

    Your choice, though, Snooks.

This sounds either that your device has some issues or your router (if you play on WiFi) is acting up. Another possible issue is that your ISP has connection issues to our services. At least it sounds like it, if your chat in Clash also is lagging.

A possible solution is to reset your network settings on your device. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets WiFi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

A much more "painful" possible solution is to back up your device, and then restore your device (factory reset). Then load up your backup to the device and see if it helps.

And as Clash12344321 said, hook your account up to Supercell ID and you won't lose your farm.

    Cheers,

    Hi Nick, thank you.

(I haven’t had time to get back to this in the last few days, so this is long, sorry.) Here are several things I’ve tried and/or have questions about.

    ———

On the other thread Tahoe told me about (thanks T) Nick explained the difference between a “crash” and a “dropped connection” and mentioned a springboard? Idk what that is. I had assumed they were the same thing, so knowing that they aren’t, is already a good start, thanks. But *is there a way we can tell the difference in gameplay*?

(In both Clash and HD) I often get laggy chat and literally every letter/character I type takes seconds to appear. Thankfully I haven’t lost connection during an attack. I used to have replays or watching live attacks show wifi bars or the “loading” circles all the time. This rarely happens now, or just for a few seconds, which seems normal.

But Clash hardly, if ever (?) drops me out of the game and has to reload, but it happens with HD frequently over the course of...Idk, even within a few minute period? When changing “locations” in the game, and just chatting. I can be mid-sentence and poof, back to device home screen. Three times before I finish a sentence. It can happen during peak internet use times, or “quiet” times. That’s what is so confusing about it.

    ———

I looked into clearing the cache, and saw the offloading app (not deleting) and redownloading it option, so I tried it with an old app (completely different) that I had for years and years but haven’t used in quite a while. I wanted to keep the data on but it wouldn’t kill me if I lost it. I lost it, because I couldn’t back up the previous device, which I no longer have. Then I tried to use the same account but “restart” it and after getting my hopes up with a phone verification, yay! it wanted me to register a new phone/email (great!) but needed to send another code to “the previous device” which I no longer have. it wouldn’t even let me connect through facebook, lol. Sigh.

I use both Clash and HD daily so backing up wouldn’t be a problem. But it’s getting back in that might be, so I’m not rushing to try that process.)

    ———

    So...

To reset everything in network settings including wifi passwords, cellular settings, VPN and APN...

(Do I really want to mess with all that? Because I don’t want every device in the house to quit working on me.) If I try this, what info would I need to have handy before I go ahead? Do I need all the old passwords/numbers, etc? Because ISP set all that up and then hubby got a new/additional (?) router to improve performance and changed some things and I have no clue which is what anymore.

    ———

We did a factory reset when I replaced this device and things went smoothly but I drove across town and was literally standing in an Apple store with a tech helping me, lol. But yeah, otherwise it sounds painful. I feel like I’d need to literally reset my passwords (or try to) on everything, hope it all works, and write them down somewhere, first.

There are already apps (including messenger) that won’t update for me now because they were originally set up on a different device or with a different email/phone number that I had like, probably a decade ago. Some apps were also likely originally downloaded by hubby on an old phone (that he no longer has, either) and kiddo and I got them on our devices when hubby synchronized everything before we went on a trip. So...different accounts on different devices, but originally “downloaded” with another device?

    ———

I know SCID is the go-to answer lol. But I’ve had a couple of clanmates complain about it a few times, and have seen complaints here on the forums a couple of times and the whole thing has me jittery, to be honest. (Since I’m so tech-savvy, lol.)

I *do have the Game Centre message appear when both HD and Clash load but haven’t specifically used GC itself since I set that all up years ago, and prior to the changes in the way it operates made by Apple however long ago. Would I get another “we need to send a code to the original device....” thing going on if I needed to restore using that?

    Thanks TerM!

Springboard is your default view on your device, where you see all apps as icons. Like desktop on a computer. If the connection is lost, the game usually (and should) reloads. It may give a popup saying "connection lost" and has a button to reload.

Sign in to Supercell ID and you are completely safe. You won't lose any progress even if you delete the app from your device.

This would at least tell you if it is in your device network settings something acting up or not. I know, it's a hassle to remember all the passwords, but...

I know it's a pain, but make a backup and it's easy! Check Apple's support pages for very detailed steps!

Sounds like you have your iCloud / Apple ID stuff mixed up, which I can't help you with. You'd need to check back with Apple in those cases. :/

Supercell ID gives you the freedom to quickly switch from one farm to another (if you have many), saves your progress and .. just works. Game Centre is ok as well, but we can't control it or have any knowledge if Apple changes the rules. Supercell ID is ours, and we have 100% support for it. Choice is yours. Of course.

Of course. Thanks Nick, I appreciate you taking the time to read through and help with all those points. Will think about what I want to do with all of that.

Ok, so a “crash” is when it drops to the springboard, you said? (Basically the home screen?) Because that is what it’s doing.

This is with or without “lagging” in chat. Haven’t had the lag tonight but still ended up on the home screen repeatedly, this time when entering the valley, and when trying to take a screenshot in the valley. (Some of that may be me not hitting home and power buttons at exactly the same time, perhaps, when the SS doesn’t work.) Other times it does work, but I’m still back to the home screen. Sometimes I see the lost connection popup, sometimes not.

I’m trying to remember now whether it tries to automatically reload, or if I always have to tap the HD icon. I think I’ve had both? I’ll try to pay more attention to what it does, in the meantime.

Is the solution to both the same in either case? Or does it make a difference?

    Thanks TerM!
