So I was just in a battle and "lost connection" so the game reloaded from the start-up screen. I then find I have lost all my troop and all spells, my CC is still full, but I have lost 19 trophies and got no loot!
Is this a regular thing?

I wouldnt say its a regular thing but does happen to some people occasionally. If you are playing on WIFI you may have just lost the signal for a minute or have a slow or bad connection. IF playing on 4g you may have lost service. It happens sometimes but hopefully not to much more for you.

ok thanks. Yeah I was playing on wifi. Happened again yesterday. At least this time I kept half my troops and all my spells! lost a bucket load of trophies though
