One of the rewards in the season challenge is 400,000 builders elixir. If I try to collect it I am told there is no space for it. My storages can hold a maximum of 400,000 so in order to collect it I would need my storages to be completely empty which is fairly impossible to do in BB.
I should be able to upgrade my storages by the end of the month but would it be possible to have an opinion to just fill the storages to max if there isn’t enough room?
You have very low level stores and will need to upgrade them anyway.
There is no rush to collect anything from your season progression as long as you plan take claim rewards before month's end.
I am very sure you make something wrong.
If you storage maximum is currently 400.000gold i guess your gold storage is lv3 and builder hall is lv4.
Upgrading your gold storage to lv4 would cost 300.000 elixir and 6h time. You can do this in few days and not 4 weeks😅.

I dont know what you want to achieve? There is an upgrade button at your buildings. You can reach the next level of your storage capacity in few days and not as you mentioned by the end of the month.
Your problem would be solved in few days.
If you dont want to upgrade you storage than you cant blam sc for that.
The best strategie in builderbase is to rush (hardcore rushing) because bb works complete different as main village does.
I'm not blaming SC for anything. I'm just suggesting being able to fill your storage to max rather than being required to have the available space would be a nice to have feature. I actually wanted to collect it so I could start research straight away. It's just a simple QOL improvement of little consequence.

You've already been presented with the solution to your non-problem.
FYI, it isn't a "simple QoL improvement of little consequence" as you put it. My take is that it's a waste of SC's time & resources, that only panders to people who want to cut corners.
Resources management is a key plank of the game; go manage yours.
I believe this would just create more problems. People will end up collecting a reward when they think they have space but end up losing a large portion of the reward because their storages were already filled close to max. Then they will come here to complain.
Your problem is really only an issue for a very small subset of players - those just starting. Your solution would cause a problem for the entire remainder of the player base.
