    Ringus: An Early-Mid TH9 Farming Hog-Cleansing Design

"Cause I was thinkin', it really don't matter if I lose this fight. It really don't matter if this guy opens my base, either Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Hogs, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood"

    Overview

If you are new to TH9 and want to protect loot use the Farming Ringus.

When you have more than 20k Dark Elixir switch to the Farming Ringus (with Dark Elixir Protection).

Should you have effective Hidden Teslas the Trophy Ringus becomes an option.

Unless you understand ring bases do not move defences (however swapping is safe).

Watch the Building Ringus video to understand design motivations.

To see Ringus in action watch the Replays.

    The Ringus Mission

The goal of a good ring base is to keep defence-led troops (Hogs/Giants/Balloons) to the outer layer whilst the core grinds the attack down from the center. The great thing I found with Ringus was the flexibility given whilst upgrading. I could move defences around and not diminish effective resource protection.

    Variations & Reports
Om3gaSe7en made several modifications to help on a trophy push.
Nitram posted data on 26 defences from a push into Masters.

    Important Note

Ringus aims to protect your resources first and foremost. I've personally used both Ringus forms between 1600 and 2600 quite comfortably. If you are purely pushing for trophies then protecting resources shouldn't be your concern at all. Once you get into Masters things get serious and you probably shouldn't be using Ringus. This great design from NJM8(Violent Sky) shows the stark difference between the two concepts. I can also strongly recommend this video from TheClashMachine(Crimson Sky), a fantastic insight into his TH9 pushing design.

    Building Ringus

Many thoughts and motivations behind the design are covered in this video. Apologies, my microphone is obviously awful and I have a terrible cold at the moment too.

    The Replays

Early replays use different forms of the base but the principles were essentially the same. Digit in brackets represents attack % result. Replays ordered on severity of attack.

    F.A.Q

I'm new to TH9. Can Ringus get me to Masters?
No. Getting to Crystal/Master/Champ is done by attacking. Not defending. That said, I (and others) have won defences in Masters with Ringus.

Can I swap [Non-Defence] for [Defence]?
If you feel the need to ask then probably not. Watch the building video or read up on ring bases. You have to maintain the middle layer of 'fluff' and the outer layer of defences for the layout to remain effective. Whatever you do don't use Detritus, that layout is very, very bad.

Can I swap [Defence] for [Defence]?
Yes. In fact Ringus was built to do that very thing and do it well. Keep your best hardest hitting defences in the middle as they are the ones you rely on to take down attacking forces. Move defenses around as things get upgraded.

Look at my design. Is it good?
Test, tweak, repeat. Honestly, how would I know? I could tell you what I think but then what? Screenwriter William Goldman once said of Hollywood "Nobody knows anything" and this can be applied here too. We can guess based on experience what works and what doesn't but it's just that. Guessing. Test, tweak, repeat. The best advice I can give about your base is, don't listen to anyone, fill your storages and take it as high as you can inviting as many different kinds of attack as possible. Test, tweak, repeat. Record replays and watch them. Then watch them again and notice something. Then tweak something. Then repeat. Test, tweak, repeat. Test, tweak, repeat... and remember nobody knows anything.

What a great Thread dude! I am seriously going to try this base as soon as i have the time to build it. I've seen u've placed your upgrading mortar and WT in the top left corner. Is this the designated place to put my upgrading splash defences? I've been struggeling with where to place my upgrading splashes in my current base.

Thank you very much for this very clear thread and great youtube instruction movie!

If my failing memory serves me right I think I just put them there because I rarely get attacked from that direction. I've found most people feel comfortable attacking from the bottom.

You can use upgrading defences to guide an attacking force away from their intended target. Hiding upgrading Teslas in a bunch of corner flags (both 2x2) can really upset a pack of giants who go wandering off towards them. Quite hilarious to watch when it happens.

Very nice base, well designed! Lots of effort put in I see
I don't have time to watch all of the replays right now but the hogs I saw got demolished. Nice!

Wow. Makes me want to jump to th9 asap lol. This base works in master? Awesome.

Did you use baloonions to get there as well?

    thank you.

    Peabak,

This is potentially the base I have been looking for - great job! I am about a week away from my TH9 redesign and I will let you know how this base holds up for me.

One question though, I get attacked by a fair amount of level 6 Giants - would they also stay/follow the outer path?

    Thanks!

Well, in masters you do get TH sniped immediately when logging out but then as a TH9 you'll be getting attacked soon anyway. Better to be TH sniped than three-star crushed.

I BAMed to 2200 and then Balloonioned to 2600.

Yes. This replay shows 17 Giants 'walking the ring'.

Looking closely at this video, I realised back then I committed the very mistake I warned against in the building video. Breaking the ring by replacing the Wizard Tower with a Gold Mine. This worked with Giants because they were tightly packed near the Tesla and to continue around the ring was closer than heading for the core. I got lucky there.

    Don't break the ring!
