Before clash, I played a mmo game, all building troop levels were limited to 10. There was no limit on storage levels. Like clash, the game was free. Players could choose to buy resources rather than farm them from goblin cities (which regenerated res every 8hrs). Players could also buy shields and various power ups.
Hero's had unlimited ability, and there was an option to steal the hero if its loyalty dropped.
Clans comprised of 100 members and leader and co leader could declare war.
A player could be attacked repeatedly untilthey truced or popped a shield. There was also an option to purchase a 4wk shield, so you could go on vacation.
You could email any player in game as well as whisper to them.
I played that game for 2 years before I got bored.
Why dont I play that game now? Too many ppl using bots to farm for resources because the game developer refused to cap army size.
My point being, players will pay to play just for the glory of being best at battles won, loot stollen, hero's stollen etc - dont limit this game to endless upgrades
Depending on how SC implements clan wars, they could make it so that is where the money is. Especially if it benefits all clans. It might even bring more money from TH10s getting ready to have a clan war. SC might make paying IRL money not beneficial but kind of helpful but not go overboard with a pay-to-win aspect turning people off of it.
In a previous game I played, this happened quite a bit. This game was not every player vs player though. These were for PvP (ironically) because they needed money to strip people of every dime they had. This generally took a whole clan. His idea isn't dumb though. People might have shields or be online. Someone might even attack them before the other one gets the name.

Oh one more thing, i dislike clan wars because it will take up too much of my time and it will be a feature that requires you to play 8 hr sessions in order to not lose to the other clan.
Agreed- the last update encouraged activity no need to make people play in hour or more long sessions to make the game viable.

Youve made an assumption about what clan wars are - perhaps you should consider what you want them to be?
100 people in a clan is too big. 55 or 60 would be fine.
