Yes it does worth it.
Imagine if you have 4 hours to burn during the weekend, and you use BAM with boost.
4 hours and you will be capping your gold storages.
Basically you don't have to save up gold anymore. Just wait till 4 hours before your upgrade finishes, boost, cap storage, upgrade, wait until 4 hrs before next builder...

I very much doubt it will end after the next update.
Remember, it's not all or nothing, so you don't have to boost every barrack.
I use Balloons / Minions and the build time is quite slow. I might actually try boosting 2 regular barracks and leave the rest. This might enable me to have a couple of extra raids in an evening without costing me a fortune.
Plus if I ever need to make a ton of resources in a short time then I can pay 140 gems for 4 hours (all barracks + spell boost), about $ 1.40 I think.

Its permanent like spell factory boost. 4 hrs barrack boost means 60-70K DE income for 100 gems. Instead of spending 5500 gems for 200K DE you can raid that amount by playing 12 hours and costs you 300 gems. Excellent deal.
