    7777

The new special obstacle costs 7777 elixer to remove. I think that 8888 would have been a better price because 8 is THE lucky number in China. Clash royale chose 8888 too for an event. Even Airbus, a big plane company chose to put an 8 in their plane name (Airbus a380) so they could sell more of them in China.

So since it is the lunar new year thing in China, it would be better to take 8888, wouldn't it?

Lunar new year isn't celebrated only by Chine. It is celebrated also by Japan, Korea, and other asian countries.

Apparently it's also considered lucky in Japan, and other Asian countries with a Chinese or Japanese influence. In both languages the number 8 sounds similar to prosper and make money.

Interestingly, that same article declares 7 to be UNLUCKY in China and Chinese-influenced Asian countries. It's impossible to "win" at the lucky/unlucky numbers game.

The 7,777 cost to remove the new glowy lantern and the 77,777 reward for doing so have nothing to do with luck or the Lunar New Year. They are a carryover from the 7th anniversary obstacle event which used these special numbers as a way of celebrating the 7th anniversary. Someone probably forgot to change it back to the standard 25k / 75k.
