Angry Ok Seriously... These Spam Posts Need to Stop

    Just look at this...

Every single one of these recent posts (as of 1/3/2020 10:43 PM PST) is just a bunch of spam. Is there anything planned to address this issue? Are captchas going to be put of on the website to prevent this?

Luckily for us, we have an effective tool to abate the spam. Here's the post for those who haven't read it. I use ii often and the forum moderators usually delete the spam in about 24 hours or less.

Yes, I know about how to report a post, and I do it to every single one. However, spam like this can be avoided just by using a captcha on here.

Here's a post explaining why CAPTCHA won't be implemented by Supercell.

Yes I just read it. And yeah, vBulletin may not support it or have an add-on for it, but implementing it onto a site isn't too hard. In fact, if I could help out, the easiest place to put a captcha is either at registering an account, or when making a post. All that would have to be done, is conditionals really. And as for "performance", captcha itself is online... the only thing Supercell forums would do is just GET and POST data for captcha via their web APIs.

And if speed of the connections to captcha is a concern, then they should attempt implementing a Honeypot instead (e.g. http://pagepipe.com/how-google-no-ca...tachment_61383 )

Additional research suggests that vBulletin actually has spam protection built in too.

    https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=214305

    • Image Verification
    • Question and Answer Verification
    • reCAPTCHA™ Verification
And like mentioned earlier, if captcha performance is a concern, there is at least the other 2 options.

Plugins though, I know they don't always work, which is why I'm not suggesting getting one.
Anyways, hopefully something can happen in the future, but at the least, I guess the manual spam intervention is fine.
    About this point:

    To reduce your effort:
Note that only reporting the oldest spam, and mentioning there are more in the same sub is enough for mods to address the issue.
In the list of members having read that spam post, if you see someone active (like in this discussion) you can assume they also already reported,... but all these reports will anyway be aggregated on mods end.

Also, a few times spams appear within old discussions, as well as in forum groups, you can also report them.
I may have soon more report posts than actual posts on the forums .

I think it's easier to just delete them instead of trying to implement a way to remove them.

Indeed, but the forum moderators have turned back against the flood of recent spam as screen shot by the OP and the spam were removed from the ForumTalk subforum.

Thank you very much The Mod Squad.

I think the motto for the Supercell forums should be this: Spam is temporary because The Mod Squad is permanent.
