They aren't even dead in Gold league.. I used mass drag all the time on revenge at TH7 and am pretty sure many others still do. If you can prevent them from splitting up and going in circles they are really good for getting all storages and often 3 starring TH8s with L5 or lower ADs (this is from TH7 using L2 drags, L2 minions and 3 lightning spells for AD+CC). Have been revenged by them quite a few times too.
Dragons are just too stupid for their train time. They need a slight AI adjustment and they will be fine.

In all seriousness, I still regularly find them attacking me, on three accounts spread over silver, gold and masters leagues.
Whatever the case is above, dragons are still used, and arguably often.
