I'm trying to keep my hoarding under control, and do reserve most of the premium stuff for my boats or those of my neighbors.

I keep 20 each of jam, soup, cake, pie, ice cream, and between 10-15 of the other stuff, the exceptions being the easier to find B&E, eggs, muffins, hats, but never have enough cheeses, cream, or sugar.

All mining tools are used as soon as I get them, and all LEMs sold one at a time. I think its fairer that way. Same thing for axes and saws unless they're needed. I work alternately on expanding either barn or silo, so sell those EMs when too many of one kind pile up. Ores, bars, and jewelry are stacked at the machines.

Primarily I sell produce in the RSS, at least one type of every variety, in lots of 10 except for fruits, potatoes, and tomatoes. Those are in lots of 3 or 5 depending on the quantity in the silo. I also sell feed in multiples of 3 since that's the way it comes from of the mill.

I thought I was only one who stocked the RSS by color, greens together, reds, browns, oranges, etc., so it's nice to know I'm not the only farmer with an eye toward color coordination...or is it a complex?

This is turning into to some very interesting reading, so many variations of how we all manage our resources, but that was expected anyway.. lol. Thank you everyone.

What is good about the feedback as well, is that a lot of the posts give reasons about why they do what, and therefore a lot of very good tips and info is being picked up by other folk, including myself..

Like a lot of you, I tend to keep around 20-25 of each item in stock in the barn, anything above that usually gets sold, apart from axes, saws, bem's, sem's. I have a full quota of animals, and normally keep enough animal feeds in to feed them all at least twice.. Beyond that, I produce animal feeds as needed, and obviously put the goat and sheep feed in overnight anyway, and this ensures I never run out..

In the silo, I like to keep around 100 of all crop items minimum, and at least 50 fruit and veg items, and sell anything above this. The latest machines require lots of lettuce and rice at a great rate, so I grow a ridiculous amount of these.. lol.

Regarding buying-to-sell, I buy items from the DD to sell the majority of them at a lower price, (usually bring the figure down to a zero on the end...!!) some at full price, but never ever sold at the default.. Other prices in my RSS are dictated by popularity and production times. Coins are not relevant for me atm..

I have a lot of friends at all levels and always hope I am helping them out by putting the "correct goods" on sale, although some things never, or hardly ever move, and I wonder sometimes, whereas other items disappear in a second, but my RSS is never full for long.. Have you noticed that your buyers levels tend to decide what they purchase from you..??

Forgot to mention EGGS...!! lol. Anyone else with all the new machines having trouble keeping up..??

    John.

Land deeds are rare - keeping them just in case for future land expansion. But now it also seems like Mallets are rare.
Are land deeds rare for everyone? I thought which items were rare was different for each farm.

Land deeds were rare for me until I fully expanded. Now I get tons of them - more than stakes or mallets. I kept the LEM for awhile, because I thought new land or fishing areas might be added, but my barn is only at 800 or so, so now I sell them as soon as they appear to make room.

Has anyone reached the max barn size? I've heard it's 10,000.

YES, John, re the eggs!! I'm level 57 (about to hit 58) and up until now I've only needed my 12 little hens and still managed to keep my machines in production nearly 24/7, but lately I've been running out of eggs. Not sure why because my newest machines, candy, sauce and sushi, don't even require them! I've been debating whether or not to get my last 6 hens but it would ruin the aesthetic of my farm and frankly, they're so easy to find that I just buy when I need extras. I bet when I'm high enough of a level to start making mayo I'll think again about getting more hens, but for now, I'm buying eggs from others.

BTW, I can almost always count on your store having just what I need. Thanks, neighbor!

Another of your neighbors, at the same level as you and have all my hens, but I'm running into egg problems now to. I always have left the first 2 stalls for 5 eggs each that I sell for cheap and I'm having a hard time stocking those stalls, cause for some reason I am using them all myself and running low. Going to have to kick those hens in gear when we are able to make mayo. I've been buying lots of chicken feed lately to, running short trying to keep up with eggs.

Maybe it has to do with having a bigger barn and being able to store more of the things we could not before that use eggs. Like you I try to make things like cornbread which require eggs for my own use and to sell. I have run into problems lately many times with my boat orders and not being able to find cornbread, pancakes and muffins when I need them. The higher level you are the more those crates need of each. Ideally I would like to be able to store 12-16 of each, that seems to be what my boat orders require, but don't have the barn space for that yet. Since cornbread has been the hardest to find, I am now keeping 12 of those and pretty much have 1 or 2 in my machine at all times.

So I think that is where all my eggs seem to be going lately.

    Interesting thread.
I think I tend to hoard items. I try to keep around 15 of each item, give or take a few. I rarely sell jams because I like to help boats with them. But it's hard to stay caught up on jams. I sometimes will have to pass on a neighbors jam boat if I don't have an amount I'm happy with. I like to sell all kinds of goods and help neighbors boats as much as I can. I will buy items in the DD to resell to neighbors, like mining tools when I find them, and other things. I always buy carrot juice, cookies and butter popcorn whenever I see it because the crates for those ask 3-4 each, and juice 6-7. I try to have 30+ of regular popcorn and bread because those crates are high numbers as well, plus if I need extra space in the barn, those two items are good to throw in the shop for quick space. It always sells.
I only sell eggs if I've accumulated too many and need that extra space. I rarely harvest my chickens, only now and again if I need a quick egg. I prefer to buy eggs when I need them, and then make the chicken feed to sell in my shop.
i just got my silo to a number I'm happy with for now, so I think I'll sell SEM's when I get them and concentrate on BEM's for a bit. Always sell LEM's when I get them as I don't need them. I like to sell LEMs in 2's and I discount them a little bit.

I usually sell items in lumps of two, or just single items. Depending on the item. Saws and axes I dont go higher than 5, depending on how many I'm trying to sell off. I have a hard time selling sushi items, soy sauce, lettuce and olives. Those items tend to stay in my shop a little longer.

I try try to have as much dairy and sugar times as I can because I've been trying to help fill those boats. I try to have at least 50 brown and white sugars, 30-40 creams, around 25-30 butters, cheese and syrup. I really hesitate to fill goat cheese crates now. I use goat cheese a lot. And fish too. I won't fill any of these crates though if I'm down to a certain number of that item. I rebuild my stock, use what I need, and then go back to helping the crates. What's frustrating is when there are at least 5 neighbors asking for help on their boats and they are all for the same item, like cream or brown sugars, haha. Sometimes I wish more neighbors would just send those boats away, lol, but oh well.

I try to stock my shop a few times a day. Been kind of busy the last few days though, so I haven't kept up on the farm like usual. I like to do barn items a couple of times, and then will do silo items a couple of times. Sometimes I do top row of silo bottom row of barn goods. Yesterday I sold only red/pink fruits n the stand haha.
right now I'm selling things more towards max price, as I still have 1 more machine to buy before I have them all......unless supercell gives us another machine! Which I would be fine with. Silo items I sell at default, except tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, lettuce, because those items take so long to grow. I wish they would switch strawberries to plants I buy like raspberries and blackberries. I hate growing strawberries.

Heck, some of you must have some humungous sized barns! I can't even get in 10 of each item, let alone 20, yet I spend a lot of my time hunting for materials and often paying bought diamonds to upgrade that dratted barn, which is never big enough!!

On the egg front, I gave up trying to sell the blighters a long time ago. Even at 1 coin per egg they'd sit there until Tom or Greg bought them. Now I only harvest them when I need them so my poor girls are egg-bound a lot of the time.

Interesting to know that eventually, you start running short of eggs. I'm swamped with eggs at level 43.

But I usually keep all 18 hens laying as long as I'm playing. I usually put 10 eggs for 175 in the second to last slot of my stand. They are meant to hold my ad, not for anyone to buy. But people do buy them, several times a day. Not sure if they really want them or are just trying to do me a favor by taking them off my hands.

Greg and his pals will eventually buy the rest. I figure getting some money and XP for them is better than letting the hens sit there.

Serious hoarder...of all the wrong stuff.
Just like my cupboards at home...

Just how does one learn to part with saws and axes BTW? You just know you're gonna need them eventually. This irrational fear of never being able to replace things like that still surprises me. Bit like hoarding dunny paper I guess

Is there a recommended/comfortable ratio you should have of these? Any guidance welcomed thank you!

Oh, if anyone knows of a link that tells the max sugar & dairy items allowed per level or barn space? Having issues with (trying to hoard) sugar items. Used to be I could store around 100 + in my barn, but it just keeps telling me my production queue if full despite barn space being awfully low on them. Don't have the massive stockpile by machine like I used to either. Dairy as normal tho... Weird.
