This is why COC is so addicting

Wanna know why Clash of Clans? It all starts when you start to play the game, at the start the game sucks because your poor. But if it weren't it wouldn't be so addicting. You look at the Top player's bases and you wanna be as good as them. You start upgrading stuff forwarding slowly each day thinking one day once your the Top player you will be happy and satisfied, but NO you never will be. in the morning you think of putting your builders on an upgrade, wanna get a good raid with lots of loot, and at the end of the day you haven't achieved anything worth it. Each day checking Clash of Clans, buying gems but never really achieving anything!

The Top players obviously bought gems to get so far, it is impossible otherwise, that's just how the game works. players buy gems thinking once they have them they will be satisfied! But ask a top player if they are really satisfied? If they really achieved something worth their time and money on the game!
You will never feel satisfied in the game you will always want more, you will buy gems and use them. That's how supercell makes so much money.

    Think about it.

Yeah this is all kinda true- but I don't try to be as good as the top players - I just try to be the best player I can be and have fun.

And and many people have enjoyed the game without purchasing gems- it's all up to us to decide how we want to take the journey.

    Clash on!

I'd go more along the lines of the you don't need to pay undivided attention to clash and you can just play now and then. It's also the nifty graphics, the fact that you get to see the change in your base from peaceful village to badass kingdom. I don't think many people get addicted to clash because of the desire to be as good as the top players.

No but they get addicted not knowing why! It's the fact that they think they will get somewhere by being active and playing

No, I'm never going to be the best. But hey, that just means this game is like everything else I do. The game is a good diversion, the attacks are why I play the game. The base building is a nice way to show off, and gives a sense of continuity, but it's secondary. It's kind of like when I play CoD. The game itself is fun to play, but overall I'm working on improving my kdr, even if it's never going to be the best in the world (have to settle for the state, oh well).
@Mendax - You were kicked for being rude, arrogant and obnoxious and for having a ♥♥♥♥ base.

I think the social interaction makes it addictive on many levels. Here are some examples i can think of:

Wanting to be in a clan- i wouldn't have upgraded my archers to level 5 in a long time if it wasn't for honor 44. They wanted all members to have level 5 archers, so I farmed the 2 million or so elixir. I hadn't even thought of it, but they helped me a lot in that aspect

Wanting to be as good as somebody else- either when you're looking at a top player or a great farmer, wanting to have the stuff they do can be great motivation.

Wanting to get better for trophies- if you think about it, bar the puny resource bonus, trophies are totally useless without other players around. (This is of course, the basic idea of farming) Players can admire you, want to join your clan, and you can always use it as a way to brag. People are motivated by just wanting more trophies, and play more becuase of it.

Talking with interesting people- i sometimes come on to play even if I don't have time to raid, just because I love chatting with my clan mates, and when you always come back, it never hurts the addictiveness
In short, social interaction makes people go "I wanna be like them" and lets the "them" in this case feel good about themselves because they're better than others

I find that I am very satisfied with this game, I think the only people who never will be are the ones who don't realise the amount of money involved in being one of those top players.

i set set my own achievable goals within the game and work towards them.
