Forum Picture and Gif Limit Sizes

Does anyone know of any size limits on the pictures and gifs in posts?

Not only dimensions, which I am sure probably is infinite (gets resized down)...

But mainly asking for the file size itself, such as in terms of kilobytes/megabytes etc.

    On a lenghty sabbatical
There are limits on attachments, but not aware of any limit on embedded images hosted on external sites. Here for example is a 13MB NASA image of the Antarctic from space ..

I believe external is key. They do limit sizes of images stored on this server. ..
    1) Always use an external URL, never "upload".
    2) Always deselect "Retrieve file and reference locally".
