    First season in new legend league: statistics and reflections

    I thought it would be interesting to track the first season in the new legends league. Below, I set out the data for all my attacks and defences over the 35 day season. A few comments on what it shows:
    1. At the end of the season, I was about 10thout of the 100 who started in my league (I say “about” because I was asleep when it ended). There were 54 players in the league at the end of the season, so nearly half dropped out (most early on). My second account finished in a league with only 26 players i.e. three quarters dropped out of legend.


    2. Despite finishing above the majority of legends, my attacking success was pretty mediocre. In part, it was easy to go through the motions, particularly on the later attacks in a day and against the same base designs.


    3. I attacked 8 times every day (which was hard when working or travelling, sometimes needing a training potion at 1am). There were 20 missed attacks on me, so the average number of defences was 7.43 a day.


    4. I was hoping to correlate strength of attacks and defences versus my trophy level, but since I stayed within a range around 5200/5300 trophies most of the time this is not very visible.


    5. I varied my attacks a little, starting with edrags but getting fed up with the same two or three anti edrag bases, and ending up with QW/pekka/bowler with an ice golem thrown in. That was a fairly safe 2* unless my QW failed, but generally around 60-70% which isn’t great (the QW was taking too long to clear a good funnel). I tried hogs and lavaloon in the middle of the season, which partly explains the series of failed attacks on days 9/10, although I think that was mainly travelling with poor wifi/mobile reception. I did have three disconnects in a row at one stage which was disheartening.


    6. The most popular army composition for enemy attacks was ice golem/pekka/bowler/witch, often with healers and/or bats, with edrags a second choice. I have not yet correlated attack success with army composition, although that is an option for next season.


    7. The same 4/5 base designs dominate legends league. I assume they are internet bases or have been shared by some of the top players, but they tend to surround the TH with xbows and infernos, eagle at opposite corner, and a tesla farm and heroes to disrupt any attack from the TH corner.


    8. There were very few 3*. I managed 3/280 attacks, and the enemy managed 6/260 attacks.


    9. The first attack on me each day was often the best. I do not have a good explanation as to why that would be the case although see point 2). On my second account, over half of the 3* attacks were first attack of the day. That might mean good attackers attack early, but that seems unlikely given opponents are within a reasonable trophy range. It seems possible that people concentrate more early in the day.


    10. The last day of the legend league the attacks on me were the worst (94 trophies lost). On my second account the penultimate day loss was by far the highest during the whole league: 245 trophies.


    11. If this is interesting, I can post the data for my second account (which finished at 5252 trophies).


    12. In theory, legend provides a good platform for practising war attacks. In practice, it is hard to experiment too much if you want to trophy push. I noted that some of the top players were using lavaloon or hogs, but for the life of me I couldn’t work out how they were getting such good success against the base designs I encountered. My lavaloon attempts were struggling to take out the cc troops and enemy queen.

    If you are pasting in a table from something like Excel it might be including a lot of formatting guff. Try clicking the top left button on the toolbar above the text entry window, "Switch Editor to Source View", which will show all the hidden stuff, if any

    I found the same thing when it came to the “best” attacks being at night and in the morning. I attribute this to players using their tablets to attack from home as opposed to phone users during the day.

    One thing I will write about troop usage, is that I am certain SC will reduce pekka hp in the next round of balancing, and I think they will simultaneously finally give golems the hp they need. Pekka dps is fine, but if usage is any indication they are far too tanky, and nearly invincible when supported by healers.

    The only thing I can say is: 280 attacks is waaaay too much time/effort for me.
    SuperCell, an 2 stars attack company.

    Yikes, only 3 triples in 280 attacks, that's painful stuff.
    So you basically would've ended where you started if you count those 20 attacks missed on you.

    Fairly true: 20 missed enemy attacks is about 320 trophies. I think it's interesting that my poor attacking still put me around the top 10% of those who started in legends.

    My war attacks show much higher 3* percentages, maybe because they are better planned or because the average enemy base is weaker. The bases at 5200+ trophies were pretty max. I don't think I saw many walls below level 11.

    I actually got bored as the season went on trophy pushing. I used the same army every day 8 times against alot of the same bases. I got as high as 5600ish. I started using different armies or just attacking from different spots or going for the three rather than a safe two to stay interested. I like the fix to legend for sure. But not sure that I'll choose to stay there every month.

    Great thread! I do wonder where I might end up if I could actually use all my heroes. I've had 2 down for almost every single attack and all 3 down for a few of the days. I ended the season at 5295. I think I used all of my attacks and was probably attacked about as often as you were. For the last few weeks though it was only every 4th day or so that I wouldn't be attacked 8 times. Most people attacking me had all 3 heroes or at least 2 and many people were maxed.
