Brutal Reality of Promotion in CWL

Just a little story about promotion and the CWL

In May's CWL our clan finished 2nd in Masters 3 (we had 7 TH12s 6 TH11s and 2 TH10s in our roster) we were 6 and 1 in terms of wins and finished just behind the first place clan. We had a stronger line up about half the time compared with the other clans in our group.

In June our roster was stronger (this time 10 TH12s, 4 TH11s and 1 TH10) and we finished first. We end up 7 and 0. The final was was 1st v 2nd and a last gasp TH12 triple gave us victory by one star both in the war and in the league itself. This season we were probably stronger than most of the clans we faced.

So for the July season we were promoted to Masters 2 - and some of our clan had a sense of foreboding about what was to come - and boy were they right. We found Masters 2 a significant step up - we now had 10 TH12s and 5 TH11s but were outmatched by at least 2 TH12s in everyone of our wars. We lost all 7 wars (one on a tie) and scored over 40 less stars than we had done the previous season (excluding the 10 stars for a win). It is back to Masters 3 for us!!!!

We had gone from the previous 2 seasons of winning 13 out of 14 wars in Masters 3 to having 7 straight losses in Masters 2.

Looks like we are a bit strong for Masters 3 but not strong enough yet for Masters 2.

What have others found the experience of promotion in the CWL to be like? Would be interesting to hear!

Yeah mate. We may never reach your level, but reading thru threads, it would appear that predominatly 12 begins at Masters 2 now.

As for us, we sandbagged the first season, so got a good head of steam up for the first few seasons.
Crystal 2 was our wall tho. We found that the step from Crystal 3 was a bridge too far for our guys.
Got hammered that season, but stayed there due to a single win. Tanking was real bad in those earlier days.

We wrote off the following season, to guarantee a route back, and have been Crystal 3 since then.
I think once you get past the tiers populated by mixed rosters and missing raids the real competition will start.
I doubt that point will ever become a reality to many clans, including ours.

Good luck for next season tho. At least now you dipped your toes in the water, and have 2 months of catch up before the next try.

Yep, that is expected. It would be usual to have to go back and forth a couple times before you are strong enough to “stay” in the next tier and then it should take a few seasons before you can work your way up so you are strong enough to be finishing near the top. Then, when you finally work your way up to a new tier again, expect it to happen just like before.

My own clan is in M3 with a similar roster. We took 2nd place this season and we think by next season we won’t have that th10 in our roster (it is one of mine) and instead will have 10-12 th12s and 3 th11s. That might be enough to push us up to first, but if not that soon then we hope within the next couple seasons. We do know once we get to M1 we will get stomped most likely.
Contact SC here. Click here to see how trophies are calculated. I'm still thinking starting the "new" legends at Legends2 at 5500 and having Legends3 be for 5000-5499 would be good (with season resets to 5000 and 5500 depending on your trophies at season end) but overall I LOVE the Legends change. Thanks SC.

CWL is just farming for medals. With the updated rewards structure, u get about the same medals in 0-7 in master 2 and 7-0 in master 3.

Otherwise, it's just 50-50 win rate except for few top clans in champ 1 and few bottom clans in bronze 3. For some, it's just 3-4 wars each season and they don't get promoted or demoted. For others, it's 7-0 and 0-7 in 2 subsequent seasons, and they keep switching back and forth.

Its the nature of the beast. Eventually you will rise high enough that you get smacked down until your bases grow some more.

lol so next CWL we are facing around the same situation too.

We were in Crystal 3 this past CWL and we threw in 50 people into war including lots of badly rushed bases and 5-10 moochers. I figured we would get 7th place because we struggled a bit last time but when looking at the potential rosters of the teams, we had tied the most TH12's, and twice the TH11's of the next most clan but still had some bases that would be hard to get stars. Our 2nd war we were up against the competing #1 clan and we began debating whether we should go for promotion or not. We ended up rostering a weak roster to go for stars, a bit too weak and lost by 2 stars (oh well, not a biggie). We just rostered the rest of CWL in order to get everyone their 8 stars and we ended up getting ALOT of participation with only a few missing attacks (it happens). We ended up making up the lost stars in all the other wars and coming first, on to Masters 3 for us :S

I'm not really fussed THAT much to move up, I'm more worried that some of our low players won't be able to get their 8 stars more than if we lose all 7 wars and get demoted cause atleast everyone still gets 270 medals to be the whipping boy.
