    Data from previous legends system

    There's been discussion on here about the new Legends system and how results will differ from the old system.

    Just before the update hit I grabbed some data for a sample of TH12s. This is all the TH12s in CWL champ 3, and half those in M2. This deliberately not entirely representative of all TH12s in the game (some of whom will be hideously rushed), but focuses on the sort of committed players more likely to lurk on here

    Trophy ranks
    First of all I got a breakdown of the trophy count and rank position at the end of the previous, May season. This shows the finishing rank along the bottom, and that player's trophy score on the Y axis:



    There were just about 335k players with a Legends badge at the end of the season. But of those only just under 270k actually had 5000 cups; the rest had dropped into the 4900-5000 range where they keep the badge.

    One other figure I calculated from this, is that the total trophies obtained by those 270k players since the trophy reset (ie trophies above 5000), was just over 71 million - this is the number of cups destroyed in the reset. If you count all the legend players that drops to 68.3 million (lower because those players at 4900-5000 had net lost trophies if they had started at 5000)
    In the old system the group of Legends players got these cups by attacking Titan players. Now they can only attack each other, and the only way for Legends as a group to make a net gain is to push a player down out of Legends - which gains the Legends group around 100-150 cups each time.

    Attacks
    Next I pulled some breakdowns for the number of attacks players had made PER DAY since the start of the June season. These numbers are slightly approximate as it wasn't a whole number of days, and it took several hours to pull the data.
    (Edit: someone has just pointed out, that these are strictly attack WINS rather than attacks as they come from the player profile. So there will be a few losses in addition to this)

    This is the breakdown for all players who were currently over 5000 cups:


    Note that players are grouped by the number rounded down. So "3" is all players with an average from 3.00 to 3.99

    I also did charts for just players 5000-5500:


    And at 6000+:


    Despite some comments on here along the lines of "OMG how can we manage with only 8 attacks per day", I didn't find many players doing more than that. And, interestingly, very few that seemed to be farming in low legends with a lot of attacks; the players at 6000+ had far higher attack numbers. (Which in a way isn't surprising, but there was a theory that a load of players were deliberately dropping cups again while attacking masses and staying at around 5000 - but I didn't see many in this group)

    TH12s and trophy attitude
    Next i pulled some charts for all the TH12s I found (remember these are ones in mid-high CWL leagues). Firstly, showing if they had ever been in Legends before:



    The purple slice is people who had a cup record over 5000, but had never ended a season in Legends - ie they must have climbed and dropped back out again within the month.
    Yellow and green slices (about half) had ended a season in Legends league at some point: but the yellow ones didn't end May in Legends.

    Next up the all time trophy records for this group of players:


    Around a quarter have ever pushed much beyond the 5000 threshold under the old system. And of those only around 6% got anywhere near competitive at 6000+. It shows the old system was hardly popular - even amongst strong TH12s, very few ever really played at trophies

    And for comparison the current (as of Monday, the day before the update hit) cups breakdown for these players:



    Most are bimbling around in upper champ to Titans; which in my experience is pretty much where a TH12 ends up if you don't try to go up or down, and aren't raiding massively often to farm.
    The number forcing themselves down low (below 3000) is significant, but not large at around 10%. However this is not representative of the overall game, as these are all Ch3/M2 CWL players. There are probably more TH12s in low CWL leagues in lower trophy leagues.

    BH
    And finally, in view of BH9 and OTTO, I looked at the BH level of the players:


    About 80% are BH8 and could upgrade and work towards OTTO. I didn't check how maxed, so if they have lower BM levels OTTO could be a long way off. It's not surprising most have got to BH8 - I had maxed my BM, the troops I use and most guns just from collectors and spamming sometimes for each games points.
    The number of "BH0" (who never built the boat) is very, very low; and even those clearly not playing BH have mostly drifted up to BH6 or 7 by now.

    I always wondered who are those game specialist, and in what way / how can you know these stats?

    People with blue badges on the forum. That's pretty much it. We don't get any special information. It's just a badge to indicate some (allegedly) sensible posters on the forum.

    The API means external software can send commands to the SC server to fetch some public info, like the player profile for a given player tag. So I just write a quick bit of code to loop through a load of players and count up whatever info I want.

    Awesome work.

    For the population you selected, before the update landed,
    - Players in low legends 5000-5500 cups, 1.7% had more than 8 attacks per day
    - Players in high legends 6000+ cups, 17.0% had more than 8 attacks per day

    That's huge especially given my understanding that clouds, on average, get worse the higher you go.
