Took them few years to add an option to change name with gems, who knows perhaps in future they will allow buying the builder with gems as well.

If they care about the player base, that doesn’t enjoy BB equally (as they say), that option should be there the moment the update lands. Not a second later.

Saying this as someone who hasn't spent a dime in years...

Of course they're not afraid it will happen with gems, what would be the point of buying gems if you didn't gain a tangible advantage? If you have the cash and are willing to spend enough to max a base in one day, then good for you (and good for SC).

The last few months have been absolutely insane in terms of what they've thrown at players to speed progression, not surprised they had to reign that in a bit.

In saying all that, I agree on the staying positive bit

I don't see anything wrong with F2P, indeed i am one of those who never spends on games.
What made be a bit angry was the official response they made, instead of saying something like "hey, the upgrades are now faster than we intended and we want to slow it down" which is perfectly fine, their decision..
They came with excuses of being unable to release new content fast enough and players might be leaving:

If we release TH13, and players are instantly maxed that same day, those players will tend to drop off from playing due to lack of new content.

Is the assumption here is that a F2P player who is maxed will leave while maxed gemmers will not leave? this SC can easily check.
Or perhaps they think th13 can be instantly maxed with hammers?? as others explained it will take months to max new th lvl and the cooldown of 1 week will not affect anyone since in this time you will be able to buy the hammers you can afford as there is a cap on medals you can hold.

I guess what i say here is that i'd like to see more genuine responses and less statements like the above.

After reading tons of comments regarding BH9 and 6th builder I still dont get it - why is it such a big deal for people ? If You play CoC for more than a month You should already know that everything in this game is thrown into a huge buff/nerf circle of life. Once useless things are vital nowadays, things we used to dominate with years ago are gone today. I know SC told us that You dont have to play BH if we dont want to - simple. And guess what ? They were right - You dont have to play it. However only really stubborn people would think that BH won't affect main village sooner or later.

As for the 6h builder - as a max th12 player who started playing CoC in late 2012 I dont see a reason to be furious about it. Especially with how fast/easy/effortless it is to upgrade everything these days. CGs. seasons, CWL medals, hammers etc...

Take it easy, start upgrading BH island andYou will finally get there. SC is not taking 6h builder away from You - You just need to put some time to get it. Blame Yourself.

6 builders is too much anyway.

I don't think that anything said here will make SC change their mind. I am with you in your stand on this topic but we should probably just accept the sentence and get on with it.
The update is clearly anti F2P players, you have:
1) slow down progress of F2P by hammers cool down while no such restriction made on gems (the excuse was "they afraid of instant maxing new content", funny they don't afraid it will happen with gems...)
2) slow down progress of F2P by doubling the builder potion medals cost while its gem cost remained as is.
3) slow down progress those who don't enjoy BB by denying 6th builder.
Beside the anti F2P this update add content and fixes to small groups of players (the 1% of clouds and ?% who likes BB)

Try to stay positive and smile, this game is great but this time the update smells bad for us.

I guess they're all done with 'genuine responses'. Which is a bad sign, for any game. Very sad to see also. And don't forget: the 'faster than intended' only applies to part of the playerbase....

Wait a minute...
you begin to say that this update is completely anti free to play and to support your claim one of the reasons you list there is 100% free to play. Whether you enjoy that part of the game or not is a different story but that argument doesn’t hold water when claiming it’s against free to play. As obtaining the 6th builder can be done 100% free to play.

Not every update will always be equally liked by everyone, it is as simple as that. Builder potions were simple OP and doubling the price is a much better choice then removing them all together from the league shop. The addition of seasonal passes and builder reductions there as well made them a little too OP for their price.

The big differene here is Builder Base is a side game.
A side game, that until now, didn't matter.

For many years it was suggested that if you didn't like builder base (lots of people don't!) you could ignore it, and not miss out. And that was pretty much true, you would miss out on gearups... which are no big deal.

Now the only way to get new, and very useful content, a sixth builder (whcih is 20% increased functionality - 25% more functionality if you are keeping a builder free for walls) is to play the builder base (or gem the builder base, I guess)

Now imagine what a Builder Base player would say if they added something to Builder Base you couldn't build if you didn't have a max Eagle, or max miners, or 300 Lvl 13 walls.

Also, if you look at the Builder Base subforum, people moan that there is no Builder Base war all the time.

People are grumpy because the playing field has changed.
