    Challenge complete

Maintaining this status will require careful play at a slower pace while the remainder of the challenge continues. Only at the very end do I anticipate gathering up the needed dairy products at 10 each -- and this still might be the hardest piece for me.

I have decided: 1) not to sell candy or jewelry items that are bestowed from the Wheel of Fortune or movie tickets, so far 4 items (1 each jelly bean, lollipop, chocolate bar, iron bracelet); and 2) not to finish the mining piece. Assuming no further lucky spins or tickets, I calculate 6 days to finish jam production and ~8 days to finish candy. I have been able to run the smelters continuously; there are currently 16 bars queued for production and I have tools to obtain 140 more bits of ore. Of the 40 pieces of jewelry required, I have 30 completed. The bottleneck? Platinum, of course. None of the 16 bars in progress are platinum and I have only 1 platinum ore. To finish, I'd need 26 more platinum bars (enough to make 6 more diamond rings, 4 more necklaces, and have 10 loose bars) plus 10 free ores. Which translates to 88 platinum ore bits needed, of which I have 1. Calculating by extrapolation, I'd expect another 4 weeks to have enough platinum -- too long! My plan is to continue obtaining explosive tools only from playing the game (I like wheating and taking care of pets!) until the last candy is completed and the last dairy produced at which time I'll declare challenge over and note how far along I managed to get on the metal products.

    Stats:
    Level started 84, now 85
    Barn started 2600, now 2650
    Silo started 1950, now 2000
Diamonds started x, now x+53 (played extra task in 1 derby, made 4 diamond rings)
Declaring the challenge over as of now. I have 10 or more of everything in the barn except diamond rings (8), necklaces (9), platinum bars (0) and the raw ores except silver. Waiting for the platinum would be too incredibly dull and tedious -- and burning through mining tools collecting rocks and looking for platinum seems wasteful. I am also too impatient at this point to spend an additional 2 days of production time making up for the 3 freebie candy bits mentioned previously. So, back to regularly scheduled farming it is -- starting with looking for a trucking task in this week's derby! The basic production part of the challenge was quite fun and I would consider doing it again at some point; it can be done in fairly short order. Good luck to everyone else who's in the midst. If anyone's looking for me, I'll be out shopping (oh wait, the barn is pretty full...)...

    Stats:
    Level started 84, now 85
    Barn started 2600, now 2700
    Silo started 1950, now 2050
Diamonds started x, now x+2 (played extra task in 2 derbies, made 8 diamond rings, bought 4 machine expansion slots)

    Utterly Ridiculous Mode completed

Hello!! I bet you all thought I'd given up and fallen off the face of the planet, but no, I've just been busy, but still plugging away at the challenge whenever I could, which could explain why it took me so long! I'm sorry for not checking in and updating more, but with the holidays etc, it's just been a bit tight. I also apologize in advance for the length of this post.

I finished the Utterly Ridiculous mode today at 1 pm, just 3 hours short of exactly 6 weeks since I began. It sounds better to say it took 5 weeks, 6 days and 21 hours

What can I say about the experience of this challenge? Well, as Cheddar put it, this version isn't for the faint of heart! I learned that I don't have the patience to sit and wheat for hours on end waiting for mining tools to drop, and even when I did sit down to do that a couple of times, the return on my time investment seemed extremely low. As Vfrood has mentioned here, you can wheat for an hour or two and not see a single mining tool. It's just too frustrating. So I relied mainly on townies and pets, and only wheated while I was in there doing other things.

I made the challenge as strict as possible for myself. I started with my barn completely empty, and didn't allow myself to buy a single thing from anyone except Greg (except for the odd time I wanted to say "hello" or "thank you" to someone who had helped me -- I would resell whatever I'd bought). I started out not allowing myself to keep anything from the wheel of fortune, the pink movie tickets, or the gift catalog, but after about 4 weeks I lightened up a little on that. I simply couldn't bring myself to sell the 6 precious TNT that I got from one of my gift packages. But none of the production items I kept were ones that I didn't already have at least 10 of.

Because I had stacked many of my machines with 50 items each and didn't touch them again throughout the rest of the challenge, I had plenty of extra space to keep collecting BEMs and SEMs, and managed to upgrade my barn twice and silo once, and tackle box a few times. It seemed like a daunting addition to the challenge but I'm proud to say I became a pro at stacking, and it was quite fun! Because I didn't buy any EMs, I sold hundreds of the excess ones until the "rares" could catch up.

Thanks for the suggestion Shepherdgirl, and yes I did end up un-stacking and putting a few more of my machines back into play after the first barn and silo upgrades. Because townies were so important for dropping mining tools, it was very nice to have that extra handful of products available for use.

    Stats (before ---> after):

    Level: 79 ---> 81
    Coins: 1,500,000 ---> 2,648,003
Diamonds: 18 ---> 109 (some spent on xmas decos)
    Barn size: 1900 ---> 2000
    Silo size: 1800 ---> 1850

Achieved: feed mill mastery, Helter Smelter 3, rearranged farm and lined up machines all nice while farm was empty of trees and bushes (that's big for me, I suck at decorating).

One big change for me happened during the challenge. I gave up my lovely neighbourhood . I realized that for the past year since I found Hay Day, my priorities have been somewhat skewed toward the non-productive, and with the derby being so much more demanding with its 9 - 10 tasks, I just didn't see any way that I could slow down my playing at all while being part of (let alone being leader of) such an active and competitive hood. So I handed the keys over to my wonderful and trusted co-leader and left 3 weeks ago. I know I left it in good hands, but it was sure a tough decision, and I very much miss all my friends that I've spent so much time with since I joined last February. Hugs and a big shoutout to all my friends in Arctic Valley

I was a complete wreck over it for a couple of weeks, but I know I made the right decision. And now that I've completed this challenge, it's time to put the cows out to pasture for a while so I can focus on some real life improvements that have been badly put off.

Thank you Hay Day, and all its farmers, for being such a big part of my life in 2015. And thanks to all of you that have been following and supporting all of us challengers! I think it was a great way to go out with a bang, even if it wasn't in my plans when I started the challenge. I'm sure I'll be back one day when I feel once again that I can afford the time

All the the best for your 2016!!

Part of my success in such a short time was planning.

I planted all tree's /bushes and started making duck traps/lobster nets straight away then focussed on jams, every time I had enough jams I would put them into jelly beans. All the while focussing on constant cropping. Strawberry jam was one of the slowest to make because of cropping times.

its unbelievably slow to start from one strawberry :-)

After the first few days I had enough easy to make items to start sending townsfolk, this realy adds to the mining/cutting item drop and speeds things up greatly.

By the time I had 10 jelly beans and diamond rings I had heaps of normal (under 4hr) product spare for boats and to help other neighbors.

I used the same theory for everything. Focussing on the longest to make item first, them getting the components of that item ready first before anything else.

i will give this another go sometime in the future, as others have said it does add interest to the game and is like starting a fresh farm, but without losing all your machines 😄

    Update first week

Going well finished 10/27 machines or 93/125 items. Finished easier ones first while plugging away at those long running items. That way am able to do production to feed townies, they seem to drop mining tools. Wheating seems to drop everything else but. Nice drop of saws and axes tho.

Of course the hang ups are due to dairy, sugar and sauce machines as one would expect. Also strawberries were an unexpected snag..they take so long. But I'm plugging along. Am not doing boats or trucks which is a relief. This way I can feed my hoarder tendencies.

Will be away for a week with intermittent access to farm, so this will take a little longer to finish.

Congrats to Vfrood, NoobieDog and Artic Fox.

    Utterly Ridiculous Mode

Well this is my first post, I have decide at the beginning of the Derby to do this... Been wanting to do this for awhile... The killing of all my trees was the hardest to wait for me. I have decide to do the hardest challenge. The utterly ridiculous mode.. I like a challenge. So I decide to do only boats and truck task to get rid of my product. But still making some product. Selling for money. When I decide to start I had 2.8 million coins and starting the challenge with 3.5 million. Not to shabby.
    Here are my stats...
    Barn : empty.
Silo: empty. ( because I already planted my crops).
    Level 94
started at 3.22 p.m. my time.
    507,282/641,000 exp
    5 diamonds
well got wheat, corn, carrot, soybeans, sugar cane, and rice establish ..
Sugar rolling, bread, corn bread, cookies, carrot juice, done.. Have all animals feed except dogs and cats... They will starve for awhile. I have sold all ems for money to buy trees, except for mining tools. So I have about a dozen of each tree and bushes planted. I will try to keep everyone updated... But I do have a hard time walking away from my farm. Wish me luck..

Idea for New Mode - ARMAGEDDON!

Quote Originally Posted by CheddarLimbo View Post
Is the same old work-a-day world of HayDay starting to lose some of it's fire? Are you a higher level player who has unlocked all your machines and wondering - What's Next?

Then try the newly updated HAY DAY SCORCHED EARTH CHALLENGE! (ver 3.0)

The Challenge - How long will it take you to go from almost NOTHING to a FULLY STOCKED barn and silo? This challenge asks you to strip down your farm, sell virtually everything you have, and start over! Staring from only 1 of each crop and USING NO DIAMONDS, you must rebuild your Hay Day empire from SCRATCH!

NOTE! - In order to participate in the full challenge, a player must be at least Level 79 and have unlocked the Lobster Pasta. However, feel free to begin at any time and complete as much as you can with your available items. The guidelines listed below are my own, and I encourage you to make it more or less challenging as you see fit. The point is to have fun!

The Goal - Using the rules outlined below, the goal is to build 10 or more of EVERY ITEM available in the game. How many Crops/fruit you produce doesn't matter for completing the challenge.

The Set Up - Players start the challenge whenever they like, but everyone must start from the same initial position. There are a few variables here, some of which matter for the challenge, and others that might help but are not required. Each contestant must do the following:

Stop producing anything in your machines, and allow your production queues to run completely empty.

Completely exhaust ALL fruit trees and bushes on your farm (you don't have to remove the dead ones, just make sure they cannot produce any more fruit). If this seems particularly onerous or wasteful, feel free to simply move the plants to a remote corner of your farm and ignore them as though they are not there until you are done with the challenge as this is often the step that takes longest to prepare.

Sell off ALL of your berries, cocoa, coffee and other fruits from trees and bushes.

Sell off ALL but ONE of each of the 14 crops: Wheat, Corn, Carrot, Soy, Sugar Cane, Tomato, Strawberry, Pumpkin, Pepper, Indigo, Cotton, Rice, Lettuce, Potato

Sell off ALL the items, product, mining equipment and animal feed in your barn (you may keep expansion materials for your farm, land and town if you like, as well as saws and axes, though they WILL take up valuable space towards the end of the challenge).

Empty your tackle box of lures, nets and duck/lobster traps, clear your fishing holes, and your Feather and Lobster Tail machines.

All your animals (including pets!) must be awake and hungry.

Dismiss all the visitors in your Town, and make sure there are none lingering in shops waiting for requests to be filled.

The Variables - Your individual silo/barn capacity must be at least 1,300 to complete the basic challenge (see below), but having more space will definitely make it easier; how many pets you start with also does not matter, unless you are doing Metal Illness Mode, as they do not produce any items that will make the challenge easier; the amount of land you've expanded, or the amount of fishing spots unlocked are likewise largely irrelevant to the challenge (though having more fishing spots might give you a slight advantage).

It is advisable that you have as many animals as possible, though you can technically complete the challenge with only one of each. It is also advisable that you gain as many mastery stars on your machines as possible before attempting the challenge as the final mastery will reduce production times. And finally, the more slots in your productions queues the better!

    The Rules -

You may NOT purchase ANY items or crops from the newspaper or roadside shops - EXCEPTION you may buy anything in Greg's shop!

You may NOT use diamonds to speed up the production of any items.

You may NOT use diamonds to ask Tom to fetch items for you.

You MAY spin the Wheel of Fortune, or order anything from the catalog with gift vouchers, but you must sell it immediately if it is one of the items needed to complete the Challenge. Participants may wish to do this to earn vouchers, money, or unique decorations.

You MAY open red toolboxes you find, and you MAY spend diamonds to unlock them.

You MAY continue to fill crates for friends and neighbors, participate in Derby tasks, complete boat and truck orders, and sell items and crops in your roadside stand, or to visitors in your town - though doing so could potentially lengthen the challenge for you.

You MAY flag your trees and bushes and boat crates for help.

You MAY spend money to plant as many fruit trees/bushes as you like.

You MAY spend diamonds to call in a boat more quickly.

You MAY spend diamonds to add a slot to the production queue of a machine or to your roadside stand during the challenge.

You MAY expand your barn, silo, land parcels, or Town buildings during the challenge.

    In Hay Day there are:

5 Animal feeds (Chicken, Cow, Pig, Sheep, Goat)
9 raw animal goods (Eggs, Milk, Bacon, Wool, Goat's Milk, Honey, Lobster Tails, Fillets, Feathers)
116 produced items (not including Candy and Metal items)

    5 Candy Items
    14 Metal items

At 10 each, that's a total of 1300 items to produce, so you will need a barn capacity of at LEAST 1300 to complete the challenge and hold all pieces at once. BUT remember that if you choose to keep any of your expansion supplies, mining tools, etc, you will need even more space for them!

Candy Crush Mode - The same rules as above, but you must also produce 10 of each candy item. That's 50 additional items to make from scratch! Candy takes a really long time to produce, so be prepared to run your sugar and jam machines even longer!

Metal Illness Mode - The same rules as above, but you must also produce 10 of each jewelry item, bar of metal, and raw ore, that's 140 additional items! Be aware that if you are going for Metal Illness, a few of the conditions above are slightly different. Metal Illness can take a particularly long time because you cannot buy the equipment needed to progress, only earn it through working on your farm. For this reason, many people who attempt this challenge find that it requires a LOT of Wheating! Not for the faint of heart.

Utterly Ridiculous Mode - EVERYTHING at QTY 10 from scratch! You must produce 10 of each regular item, candy item AND 10 of each jewelry item, bar of metal, and raw ore, increasing the total required to a whopping 1,490 items! That's every available item in the game, and will take at LEAST 24 DAYS of constant production (but probably longer)! As an additional incredibly difficult challenge, you can only buy fruit trees and bushes with money earned from selling items created DURING the challenge. This will take a little bit of book keeping on your part unless you want to spend all of your cash before starting (not recommended, seriously, that's just crazy talk).

When you are ready to start, make note of the date and time you started by posting in this thread. Post again once you've completed the challenge (or given up like a quitter!
) and revel in the glory of your own success!

    Good luck!

    A Few Clarifications:

Only the contents of your barn are being measured. The amount of crops/fruit you have in your silo at the end of the challenge doesn't really matter for the "final score". The amount of fruit you have is directly related to how much money you can spend on buying trees, and is not really representative of success.

If you should accidentally spend diamonds to speed up the production of an item, unfortunately the only fair thing to do is to immediately sell it. If you speed up a crop or tree, then do not harvest it until other trees or crops planted at the same time are also ripe (or if that's too complicated, remove the tree or bush to a remote corner of your farm and ignore it for the rest of the challenge).

Previous versions of the game allowed you to keep your mining materials at the start if you were not completing Metal Illness Mode. However, remember that the Top Hat requires refined coal to produce. So you'll have to get rid of any mining materials before you start, or find a way to keep track of the ones you had when you started and only use those you earned during the challenge.

Seeing all the players that have attempted and completed the Scorched Earth Challenge at all levels, has inspired me to do so as well. I feel that if I am going to do Utterly Ridiculous why not take it Steps Further, and do what no one may have attempted to do before, my thinking is fellow players would have to say the following:
    • Stray Jacket Needed for that Player
    • Get a Padded Cell for that Player
