    A little update ..very little

For those watching this thread and thinking of trying it..

I have now got at least 10 of everything for the BASIC challenge, EXCEPT of course JAMS!!

Barn is full almost, so I can only make the odd thing and sell it straight away, can't help boats or do my own as can't use stock and must be careful to keep all at 10 or above. of course, if I could get my hands on 11 wood panels, I could make some room (hint hint pals..). Animals are just left getting fat as I can't harvest/feed because of barn space issues.

Here is my current state of play to date..waiting on er, 5 strawberry and 8 cherry jams before I can claim the BASIC challenge.

Cannot quite bear to add up the hours, frustrating that I can't play properly so will just go away and do something else!

On a positive note, I am building up the Candy items and the Metals, but, again, not getting mining items, in fact I swear it's getting worse. Nothing today at all! Even Greg has stopped tempting me.

Thanks for breaking my addiction! But I am no quitter either! (..slopes off to sit on hands)

    I have a question....

I am seriously thinking about trying this and I have carefully read the rules, twice, and I just have one question....

Since the only way to get mining items is completely random when you harvest and pick up items, why did you take away the option of getting them thru toolboxes, WoF, gift cards or as a global award?

I can understand not being allowed to buy them on RSS or using Tom to get them, but since it is so random, I would think a little "help" would be almost be necessary.

I would like to do the Ultimate challenge but after reading the posts on how difficult it is to get mining equipment, I might not.

You can get them through tool boxes, you just can't use diamonds to open the tool boxes.

But I agree about the rewards, and also Greg's farm, because everyone gets the same random luck of things for sale through his rss, I think they should be included.

Maybe I should try again :)

Okay - I tried and failed (after only 1 day because I thought it was boring). I have thought about it and realized some things about my 'failure' - First, I had over 300,000 gold and could use it for trees and to buy jewelry (I was not doing the full challenge). I realized that it made it 'easy' for that part of the game. I am now up to 919,000 gold - I want the red tractor so I won't be wasting my gold on 'junk' just to get rid of it. I think I'm going to get to 1,000,000 gold and 'pretend' it is at $0 for the challenge.

I have Tom for about 5 more days - I have 3 days left on trees (a bit less, really). I'm going to not worry about those and will sell off inventory I get from them - will use Tom for shovels (diamonds) and will sell off the ore (not using diamonds for anything other than rehiring Tom - will keep track of diamonds I find and use those for rings).

One thing I did last time was sell all inventory at minimum prices just to get rid of it - the first thing I did is take my crops down to 1. That was kind of silly - This time I will continue doing wheating until I am ready to go. Oh, and last time I got my animals ready first - what a waste of experience since it takes a couple days to go!

I will NOT be starting this until after the update though - I don't want to end up doing it and regretting it due to the update...whatever it may be!

So, I guess my point of this is to announce that I'm in the preparation mode for starting over again. This time I'll be going all out though - candy and jewelry!

I'll let you all know when I start!

    why? Gold is irrelevant.

You spend Diamonds on Tom to get Diamonds? Remember to sell off all those shovels, TNT and dynamite then too, as well as ores.

Animals have to be hungry and you only have 1 of every crop, don't see the point of wheating...you need to sell.

Just to clarify some of the comments you made in the quote you posted:

Money is not irrelevant. If I have gold I can easily buy trees and shrubs. If I can do that easily then it makes it not so much of a challenge. If this was truly a "scorched earth" and I can only start with 1 of each crop, then I should have NO money to start (or very little like 100 gold or whatever it was when we originally started) because otherwise it's an "advantage"

Yes, I absolutely spend diamonds on Tom to get diamonds. I buy him for 10 days. I send him for shovels every other time (or so) and within a couple days I've found enough diamonds from the mine, the movie ticket and the occasional red chest to have 90 diamonds to rehire him - then I can use him to go for whatever I need him to go for. VERY worth doing that. And I absolutely do NOT sell shovels - I use them in the mine. I typically get a diamond 1 out of 3 shovels I use.

The point of wheating is this: I am waiting for a some things to finish before I can start the challenge again. Until I do that I might as well do wheating to try to get building supplies to try to upgrade my silo or barn again. I know animals have to be hungry - but until I'm ready to start there is NO sense in letting them just sit there - why not keep feeding them until I'm ready to start - I'm getting good experience points, and a lot of building supplies by doing so. Once I'm ready I will make sure they are hungry and that I have 1 of each crop, but that will be the last thing I do this time, not the first.

It's not something I will be doing immediately - I'm trying to figure out the strategy right now and really trying to figure out if I want to take this on again. I am not sure.

    DO IT! DO IT!

Or maybe you should wait until after the next update. That's what I'm going to do. I was going to wait til I got close to 1 million coins again but now I don't think I will. Unless I get the coins before the next update.

Maybe we should do it together? The buddy system!

I think it would be so much more fun to have a buddy system! I'm game if you are!

But I do want to wait until the update just in case it is something good!

    I'm totally game!

Ok, as soon as the next update happens, I will start prep mode.

I am at Level 78 right now and my barn is at 1500. Hopefully it will be bigger by the time we start the challenge.
