I really would suggest you not try the Metal Illness mode the first go-round. It can be incredibly boring and frustrating one you reach a point where you are just waiting for mining materials to drop. It's a real slog at the end waiting for just one more shovel only to get one, use it, and STILL not get the platinum ore you need.
Thank you for advice. I hadn't thought about the difficulty of mining the ore. Can you do wheating to obtain and use mining materials to mine for ore?

i have started to wind down production now on my machines. I even sold a few bits earlier from my barn and for me thats huge news! While im happy to help I never just pack my rss with good stuff like jam and juices. But in the words of Frozen "let it go" Im sure I'll be back to 20 of everything........ eventually.

I will ill literally clear my barn and silo after the derby finishes. Then I guess it's back to basics..... Crop growing, feed makng.........

Yes, wheating is really the only practical way to get item drops frequently. You'll acquire some tools just in course of regular play, but it will take a LOT of them to get enough ore for the challenge.

In total you'll need to mine:

    190 Silver ore
    160 Gold ore
    130 Platinum ore
    80 Iron ore
    80 Coal ore

Even if all you used was pickaxes, you's still need at least 128 of them, and that's assuming you got exactly the right distribution of ore you need, which you won't. You'll end up getting a ton of extra coal and iron that you won't need for the challenge instead of the Silver or Platinum you desperately want. It can take an excruciatingly long time to complete, and there's really not much you can do to speed up the random appearance of the items needed except to wheat your little heart out.

Has anyone completed Utterly Ridiculous Mode?

Im an all or nothing kind of person. So I'm thinking why not go for the big one! Truth is I farm every day but I have been soooo bored recently that I considered giving up. Maybe this is what I need to keep me busy (or drive me crazy)

But seriously.... Has anyone completed the Utterly Ridiculous Mode?

Im nearly done on the derby so when I'm finished it will be sell off stage! Eeek

I have never completed Utterly Ridiculous Mode, just the Basics, once and then the Basics + Candy once. It took (edit) a little over 3 weeks. It was my intention to do the entire thing when I started, but waiting for the items to make enough ore was agonizingly slow, and stopped being fun for me very quickly.

There ARE players who have done the whole thing, though, you can read their accounts further back in this thread.

    Hi VickyD,

I (and I'm not alone) have completed the Utterly (I want to type udderly) Ridiculous Mode, and a few pages back there's an Armageddon Mode invented by MikeySpeed (rules on page 64) that I've been contemplating for the extra (it's a big extra) challenge. If you opt out of the metal you can expect the challenge to last about three weeks. If you opt for Utterly Ridiculous you're probably looking at closer to two months. Check pages 50-60 for some accounts of the challenge (basic to ridiculous) if you want more details. Good luck! And have fun

Just finished the Scorched Earth Challenge

Well, I have just finished the Scorched Earth Challenge in basic mode (no metals or candy). It has taken exactly 16 days. I am looking forward to playing my usual way again. I do recommend trying it if you feel you are in a rut with your playing, however, I was very glad to have my baby farm to play normally for about the last week!

Thank you all for the support! I will continue to watch this thread to support others taking the challenge.

Just like the other trees, there should be zero. And just like the animals, the beehives should be empty.

If you've got some ready for revival, you can just set them aside for the duration. If you've got some ready to be chopped down, don't worry about them at all.
