past forum, as cluttered as it was, with all those colourful people was ORSM, but present forum now seems bland - meh

Its over organised and too many feel its their right to say "wrong subforum" and I feel that just saying that comment gives others a licence to flame (sad face)

General - should be about base design, tactics, mano's and anything thats interesting that comes up in game = my 2c
I am bit strugling on why should base designs and tactics be in General as they have their own place, where people might even find them. If the reasoning is so that the "cool" bases deserve spotlight time, how do you think all those, whose bases didn't get the spotlight time feel?

I have said already countless times, that equal treatment is among the highest priorities in my books when one wants to have enjoyable (or some cases bearable) forum experience. If one gets to break the rules, why not someone else? If one gets spotlight time, why not someone else?

The culture here on the forum looks to be like this: as long as you got even the slightest evidence of something being different in what you find in game, it makes everyone else's experience null and void. Sure, I agree that if you got a screenshot of something that is constant in the game, like how a level 10 AT looks like, but discussions about loot, target finding and strategies are often dismissed by a screenshot of someone else. But that doesn't prove anything, as there are not two same situations in the game (besides single player mode) and BOTH are equally right. Yet almost all discussions blow up when someone just has to go "see, you are wrong as I got this *image* so you are stupid to not see it when you were playing".

What makes things even more heated up at the moment is the absense of response. And the response so far has been "looking into it", as pointed by many, has the tendency of being the "laa laa laa I can't hear you" in the corporate jargon.

So what can one expect of the forum where members bash eachother six ways to sundays and the responses from higher up say just "we are doing it our way, shut up"? Sure, we get all happy replies and fun & cool, when someone posts something "happy". It just doesn't take away the 20 pages of user feedback complaining a single issue.

I'm sure this will all blow off in few weeks. But nothing will change here. Come next update, it's same all over again. Like it has been for months already.

When I first came to the CoC forums I had just started playing Clash of Clans a few months beforehand, and being the avid gamer that I am, was in search of other clashers to share information with and learn from. I had been a casual farmer, or one could say a "weekend warrior" but was enjoying the game so much that I wanted to learn as much as possible by sharing experiences with others and by learning new strategies from more knowledgeable / experienced players. And the forums were not lacking in any of these things.

New posts about discoveries, strategies, thoughts and ideas, advice from veteran players and so on were frequent and alive with active constructive discussion. Many such threads helped me tremendously with my transition from a weekend warrior to a daily farmer, and when I was ready, helped me figure out how best to make the transition from farming to trophy pushing.

Ultimately these forums helped me understand the game mechanics in depth, learn many strategies that have stayed with me still, and even opened my eyes to several whole new aspects of the game that I didn't even know existed. While other sub forums were very useful, the General forum section was always the most active and information packed section.

I don't know when, and I don't know why, but something changed big time (and let me be clear, the LAST thing I'm interested in reading is poeple's consirocy theories of how SC did this and that to ruin the game, thus causing the forums to change the way I have. This post is NOT about the actual game, which I still thoroughly enjoy, it is about these forums, and specifically the General forum section).

Now General may sometimes still have a helpful guide or an interesting constructive debate in a thread here and there, but it immediately gets flushed off of the first page by the absolutely ridiculous FLOOD of posts of people complaining about whatever the hot topic is at the time; people making new accounts to double post the exact same complaints, people just blatantly bashing supercell / making empty threats to quit the game - and of course all of which have the same excuse, that if we (the forum-goers as well as SC mods) don't see their complaint / threat / jumble of nonsense constantly, then the game will die because everyone will stop playing.

In the little bit of discussion I do see involving game mechanics, strategy, and so on it usually consists of or at least ends in a divide between farmers and trophy hunters or TH10s and everyone else - both sides furiously explaining that the other side could not ever hope to understand how much harder they have it and so on.

Where did all of the knowledge-hungry people go? Where have the weekend warriors seeking information go? Where have the helpful veterans hoping to teach some other players some new tricks go? Have you all gone into hiding / left all together?

Or do you still open the forum pages like me hoping to see what you used to, only to see the most recent flood of the same thread / topic / sometimes same word for word posts back to back.

I go to the forums with hopes of seeing the same sense of community I once saw - hoping to learn new things and pass on information as others did to me in the past. But of course I just end up getting incredibly frustrated the moment I see yet another day of people flooding the forum with complaints about witches, or hogs or loot, or their dead tooth or whatever the falvor of the week happens to be which usually results in me angrily responding to some of them and them.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Does anyone else still even try to seek stimulating discussion about game mechanics here anymore only to give up and l/ or leave the forum page frustrated and overpowered by the massive tidal wave of trolls? Did I miss something or has the content of these forums gradually shifted into a junkyard of poorly explained, poorly thought out complaints that always seem to end in members either exclaiming that SC is the source of all evil or members flaming each other until their thread is closed?

So in short my big question which I have no expectations of getting answered continues to echo in my thoughts: What happened to the General forums section , and how, if it's even possible, can the glory and collective knowledge of the General Forums that I first saw when I came here be revived? What happened General? We used to be so in love but now all we do is fight.
I used to post sooo much, and now I do less. I only post in the things I find worthwhile also. You just have to be picky about what threads are worthy lol

It pleases me that this thread continues to be creating mature discussion about the topic, and while the actual issue does not please me clearly, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way. Seeing as several mods have already chimed in to this thread and displayed interest, I am hopeful that by seeing the continued interest and contributions of ideas for solving the "problem" of general will lead them to discuss possible solutions.

Even though this is not an issue with the actual game, the CoC forums are a core part of the game's development and community so I am hoping that SC feels / realizes that maintaining high morale / membership on their forums is as important as I believe it is.

While forum mods are usually a middle man between the players of clash and the developers of the game, in this situation I believe the mods could assume the role of the "higher ups" in taking it upon themselves to request permission to oversee and solve this issue (that is, if I am correct in my observation that mods seem to be taking interest in this topic).

I agree that the best solution is not to simply re-integrate subforums such as base design and tactics back into the general forums - there is great value in those threads having their own section. The issue seems to be that they do not get nearly as much traffic or publicity as general does.

I also agree that it would not only be unfair, but very subjective for mods to pick and choose which topics got more time in general before getting moved to their correct forum (and on a side note, to those who said this thread is in the wrong forum, I would like to counter by pointing out that not only is this thread about general, but it is also, in it's own way, a complaint, so as things are general is certainly the best place for it right now haha).

I also agree that people often get frustrated when there is no response from SC regarding whatever the latest debate / issue is, and often when a mod does contact the devs, that mod's only reward for communicating a message from the company to us is getting berated by people for not providing the message that they wanted to hear. I know that if I were a mod, that would greatly lessen my desire to communicate such messages unless I had good news or absolutely needed to in order to keep the community from lashing out too much.

My point is, that whether I am right or not about how the mods feel, we as forum members are only severing the channels of communication by blaming mods / holding mods responsible for issues we may have with the game.

Yes, they are in a sense the face of the company on these forums, but they are still just the messengers and the peace-keepers. If we want improvement in communication then we have to be part of it as well.

Oh yeah! Well, I just three starred a town hall 10 with two inferno towers on disco mode! Your experience is null and void. See, you are wrong as I got three stars so you were stupid to not see it when you were playing.
