    I won’t be buying this

    Dear Hay Day team,

I will not be buying any more special offers. As great of a deal as 250 diamonds, 200k coins, and 10 of each LEM (including maps) for $8.99usd is. I can no longer support a game that has had such a horrible bot problem for so long. I have had enough of the pre-canned responses when reporting bots. And I am tired of being unable to trade expansion materials.

You claim we cannot have either a private trading slot or being able to lock out our rss because it would “ruin the economy”. Yet these bots stop legitimate players from trading on a regular basis; trading that is essential to progress and written into the Hayday code by virtue of the fact that people have specific EM farms. And selling/buying of EMs is required to advance.

So until these bot problems are resolved, consider my credit card closed.

    Sincerely,
    Art

    Art,

Refusing to support HD financially is one of the ways to tell Supercell that you're displeased how their developers haven't come up with a solution which allows you to trade expansion materials and to progress in the game. While the presence of bots are deterring you from trading, may I ask what you're doing currently to get more expansion materials?

I started playing in 2014 and here's how I progressed to level 133 by managing the expansion grind: Plant and harvest the crops, play the town often, and feed all my pets. I do this as an active and casual player. Eventually, I will get more planks and duct tapes than bolts because the game is designed to give us expansion materials asymmetrically. My current magic number for my barn is 92 so I only keep the bolts and 92 planks and duct tapes. To alleviate the pressure of the grind, I must sell off the excess planks and duct tapes exceeding the magic number. Then I wait for the game to give me my final bolt which I've done 91 times already.

After so many upgrades, I know I'll get duct tapes and planks faster than bolts for the next barn upgrade. I repeat the same process for my silo whose magic number is 86.

Here's how a level 219 forumite expanded the barn to 12,000 despite the bots disrupting the trades. It can be done if we have the perseverance.

OP makes a valid point. Paying players are frustrated, and are showing that frustration by not paying anymore. At some point, it would be far cheaper for SC to find some kind of permanent solution. The occasional sweeps are just stop-gaps.

Lynn, that is a solid strat if you don't mind selling (or really giving away) your EMs. It looks like the best way to do it is to trade 10 at a time, as the L-Bot only comes after the first transaction, it would appear.

    Thanks for the support Benjamin!

Solid strat as in strategy? LOL, then I'll call it the Elsa Strat. IIRC, I think I adopted it a few years ago when I was below level 100. I was hoarding enough duct tapes and planks for the next two updates. Even though it seemed counterproductive to me at the time to sell any expansion tool, I realized that they were albatrosses around my neck because they took up valuable space in my barn and slowed my progress in the game. The game became more fun when I let go of the duct tapes and planks and sold them until I had enough for the next update while I waited for the elusive bolts from harvesting the fields, serving town visitors, and feeding the pets.

This Elsa Strat gave me enough room in the barn to progress in the game through the years. Even though I'm a level 100+ farmer and have enough room to hoard enough duct tapes and planks for the next three updates without straining my barn, I continue to sell them off until I have enough for the next update.

    Good habits die hard.

P.S. Now that I believe there are bots trawling for expansion items sold for 1 coin, I'm selling them at max price instead of default price.

And I have heard of that, but if you and I teamed up, we’d be able to upgrade faster than if we gave our BEMs away. I have enough bolts for the next two upgrades.

This is a social game, and part of that social aspect is coordinating with other players to get what you need. One can play this game as a solo player, but that’s not how it was designed, and you are only crippling yourself.

I don't believe that I'm crippling myself and as to it's a social game ,ok but I don't like big neighborhoods and I see this as being forced into just what I really don't want , funny how the game is following what is happening in real life .

Art, if you and I teamed up with my duct tape farm and your bolt farm, we'd upgrade faster than if we gave our BEMs away. But I'm playing casually so my goal isn't to upgrade as fast as possible. If I were to enter a symbiotic relationship and trade with you frequently, I would expose myself more to the BEM bots looking to find me. I'm lucky they haven't found me yet even though I sell EMs several times a week which is within my comfort level and casual play style. In the back of my mind is the quote from Nick warning us that trading is always risky. I'm trying to minimize my risk by not being an active trader.

I know about the benefits of playing HD socially a few years before reading this subforum, years before reading about the Supercell CEO wanting their games to be social and played for many years, years before current HD Game Designer Camilla posted that all EMs are balanced globally but some players get more of one item than the other, and years before former Game Designer Touko revealed that players are divided into 27 groups and get the same expansion tools and same drop rate but there's a permutation so some players will get more or less of the tools to encourage selling surplus tools and buying the missing tools.

Wow, I think that's the longest sentence I ever posted, so I must check carefully to see if it's a run-on sentence. Did I lose anyone? I'm not trying to be William Faulkner.

BTW, in my chillaxed, full neighborhood, we don't trade often. Instead, we put the EMs in our shops unadvertised and announced the sale. We understand that we may not be quick enough because some of us have many followers and their timing may be better than ours.

Well spoken , some don't realize that that is the goal now to be a global so called community. But I must say as here and in real life the global thing really does not work. What seems as a good idea on paper is only a dream . I don't want to be forced with what I see as punishment for not joining in a big neighborhood, same as how I live in the real world I am out with the horses and the sounds of nature, hearing a rooster in the morning is so much nicer than the noise of traffic and crowds 24/7 .

It is like sport: you can play football in your backyard with your 2-3 buddies, but you won't earn the big bucks like the League players do. ☺
