Apparently, my farm produces screws and duct tapes at a higher rate than the other expansion items. So I try to sell duct tapes and screws at least once a week.
If I see "1/27 neighbors online", then I know I'm the only one currently online so I won't sell them until I see 2/27 or more. I want my hoodmates to benefit from my glut of duct tapes and screws first before my followers do.
The new feature benefits my hoodmates more than me so kudos to Team Hay Day.

It is a bit help to know how many is on and at what time ,
So far I got numbers on in my team from 2/24 to 12/24 and that can be to same use .
I play much and do much of the throwing in the Derby .
Are there 12 on dont I have to go in and check the Derbyboard the job is done ,and I can wait to take any derby task if there are others that need tasks .

i seem to be in the minority here ..but i like knowing how many are online.
if it says 1/19 on, then i know im the only one and there's no point in asking for help or asking if anyone needs anything.
as leader, its kinda helpful to know when the busier times are and how active ppl are. sure there are other ways of figuring that out, but the online feature makes it extra easy.
its also just nice to know im not playing alone sometimes lol.
i do think though that there should be an off switch, for hoods that dont want to use it.

we are 3 active players in our nh ... and yes, it's usefull to know somebody else is online, because we help each other a lot, now, we don't have to pass to another appli (messenger, what'sapp) to say "i'm here" to sell something or exchange things ...
little things that change but really find that great !!! ... and the two others of the nh also ...

I was hoping we would just have a dot next to our nh members names when they are online. Who is more beneficial then how many, imo.

I agree you should be able to opt out if it. Not even the whole NH, just individually. For many it’s an intrusion we asked NOT to have, be it names OR numbers, though numbers is obviously a bit less intrusive
Since I have 2 farms (baby farm is in a hood by itself, others don't know about it), I find it quite beneficial to know when I'm the only one on so I can sell things between the 2 w/o being too concerned about someone buying items before I can switch farms.
I understand that some prefer to play anonymously at times, so do I. So I agree that an on/off switch would be beneficial. Point is, just because a certain feature isn't useful to everyone, doesn't mean it should be thrown out altogether.
Reason I had asked if the 1/30 wasn’t counting as me is because I’ve been chatting with someone and it still says 1/30 so I thought it wasn’t counting me. This has happened SEVERAL times so now I’m wondering if this is a glitch? After reading here that everyone thought it was counting me as the “one” I’ve been watching it more closely and it keeps happening. Maybe I should report as a bug? Has this happened to anyone else?
I think this was a good compromise between those who wanted to know exactly who was online and those who wanted absolutely no notification. Both sides reasonably happy and unhappy. Compromise
