Apple just decided they wanted a bigger piece of the action. I'm sure they'll get it sorted but you may have to wait a bit.

Just checked Apple System Status and iTunes Store shows Green (online and functioning).

Mine is functioning again.

I was in the same boat, just read this thread and force-quit the app. That worked for me! (iOS)
