    Ok Sir Steve, here’s mine....

Hey Cheryl, thank you for playing

    1) If you were one of your cakes, what flavour would you be and why?

Some of my best mates would probably say a fruitcake!
I’d prefer to think of myself as a refined chocolate torte with a hazelnut praline frosting, reality is probably more like chocolate fudge cake with Nutella frosting .... or fruitcake!

    2) I love my farm deco’s, are you a deco’s guy or do you prefer to keep it farmy..

You’d think with the whole cake thing, I’d be all over farm decorating .... but it holds no interest for me at all. If it doesn’t produce something it doesn’t have a place on my farm, I’m all about maximising derby efficiency and improving my hoods performance. However, I do admire the patience and creativity that a lot of you have to produce the stunning farms you do.

    3) What’s the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever found yourself in?

Hmmm .... this took some thinking about. I guess it goes all the way back to 1979 at the British Military Hospital in Munster Germany. Male and female presence in each other’s barracks was forbidden after 21:00 hrs, but of course plenty of “overnight fraternization” went on, the trick was not getting caught. Periodically the duty officer would call an accommodation check to try and catch interlopers in the wrong barrack blocks. My now wife and I (she was an army nurse) we’re engaged and “cohabiting” in her accommodation block, when such an inspection took place. No escape out of the first floor window, so I stood on the radiator below the window, behind the curtains as the female duty officer searched the room. I wasn’t discoverd, but it was midwinter, the radiator was on and HOT! I was barefoot and stark naked, hopping from foot to foot in silent pain. A number of our friends and colleagues gatherered outside laughing and taking photos of my backside jigging up and down in the window - thank god social media didn’t exist back then

    4) What’s the difference between good and fantastic...

Good is what I try to be ... and usually fail. Fantastic is what my wife is for putting up with me!

    5) Funniest joke you’ve ever heard...

Well by definition at least the 50 funniest jokes I’ve ever heard can’t be told on here because they breach forum rules on bad language, taste, decency, sexism, morality etc. let’s try this one and hope it’s ok:
A man goes to see his doctor.
“What seems to be the problem” asks the doctor?
”Every time I break wind it sounds like a motorbike” replies the man.
The doctor has him undress, and bend over for an examination.
”It’s as I suspected” replied the doctor “you have a rectal abscess”
”How does that account for the motorbike thing?” asked the man
”Well you know the old saying” replied the doctor .... “Abscess makes the fart go Honda”

At this point I’m really hoping ‘Absence makes the heart grow fonder’ isn’t just a British saying

    6) What were your school reports like and typically what did they say?

Oh dear.... not very good. I was one of those A for achievement, E for effort kind of kids. Lazy doesn’t even begin to cover my approach to schoolwork, but I was still able to pass exams etc, it used to drive my parents to distraction. The only thing I worked hard at were sports. It took a little time for the army to knock that laziness out of me and instill some discipline when I joined at 17 and a half. My recruit graduation report said “Private Mercer could have won the prize for best recruit, but he always had an answer. Even when an answer was not required”.

    7) Finish this sentence “when the going gets tough...........

The tough carry out an immediate risk assessment, and form a steering group, to elect a committee, to address the issues in an eco friendly, non sexist, non racist, gender non specific manner.

Ok, my turn for some questions.

    1. What made you join the army at 17 verses another branch such as the Navy?

    2. How did you get into the Bio Medical (is that right) field?

    3. If you could choose to re-do your life, would you and if you could what would you change? I saw you said you have no regrets but sometimes there are things we would change.

    4. How and why did you start making cakes?

    5. How did you meet your lovely wife? How did you propose to her?

    6. If you could change anything you wanted about Hay Day, what would you change?

Ok, my turn for some questions.

Hi Cynthia, thank you so much for taking the time to ask some questions. I said I wouldn’t duck any so here goes

    1. What made you join the army at 17 verses another branch such as the Navy?

Under some parental pressure to get a job and develop a career (I was way too lazy to go to university and do well), I was looking for something in the scientific line. The army was advertising for medics and bomb disposal recruits at that time, so to annoy my mum I applied on both counts - after all leaving home would be an added bonus. Cut a long story short I as accepted to train as a medic, because I was under 18 I needed parental consent and my mum wouldn’t countenance bomb disposal So I left home, an almost accidental recruit, with the firm assurance from my parents that I wouldn’t make it through recruit training. 65 of us started, 20 weeks later 15 of us passed out. I am back row third from left in Dec 1976 (looking about 12 years old) almost as many instructors as recruits in that pic LOL

    2. How did you get into the Bio Medical (is that right) field?

All medics start out as conmbat medics, but with the chance of progression into additional skills and training if motivated and academically suitable. After a couple of UN tours in Africa, I was interested in tropical medicine, so applied to train as a biomedical scientist in all aspects of pathology, but hoping to specialize in microbiology and tropical medicine eventually. Just like any civilian hospital, the military requires the full range of hospital trades, especially for operational deployments. I was accepted and in the fullness of time even spent some time as a lecturer in tropical medicine to trainee army medics and doctors.

    3. If you could choose to re-do your life, would you and if you could what would you change? I saw you said you have no regrets but sometimes there are things we would change.

It’s natural to think, what if...... but genuinely, there nothing really I’d change in my past life, because I’d be in a different place to the one I am now. Maybe last Saturday’s lottery numbers?

    4. How and why did you start making cakes?

My daughter was getting married, and we were trying to get her the best value we could from her wedding budget. I saw what the cake would cost and said I’d do it .... how hard can it be! Many YouTube tutorials and a few hours of practice later it worked out ok and the rest is history.

    5. How did you meet your lovely wife? How did you propose to her?

We were serving together in Munster Germany. A group of us went out bowling, my then girlfriend was on duty so didn’t come, Ann and I were the only non couple so we paired up and hit it off big time. I was just 21, never considered the possibility of a serious relationship, but when you meet the right person! I was due to deploy to N.Ireland just 3 months after we met, impulsively I went down on blended knee during a corporal mess function and used a coke can ring pull as a ring. She still has that ring pull and next year we celebrate our 38th anniversary.

    6. If you could change anything you wanted about Hay Day, what would you change?

Since I’m all about the derby it would have to be related to that. There needs to be more balance in the various Derbys, it’s almost like SC don’t understand or care that different sized hoods are massively disadvantaged by some aspects of the various Derbys. It’s crazy that solo players can’t score enough points to get all the horseshoe prizes, blossom derby is just regular derby for solo players, bingo derby has been all but impossible for large hoods, recent themed Derbys with a maximum of 12 possible themed tasks at one time is a very dull grind for larger hoods.
I don’t know what sort of feedback SC uses in it’s game development, but there are plenty of good players who would spot these flaws early on.

    Hello Steve,

a question about the Special Derbies.

HD have announced in the last hour a Summer Derby. What are you views, and what did you think about the Fishing Derby and other Special Derbies?

    Hi Wussy,
That’s one of the easy ones, I’d love to be a sports commentator/pundit for international cricket.

I loved playing cricket, I love watching cricket. International cricket is really only played in UK, The West Indies, India, Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa (nobody visits Pakistan because of security issues) can you think of a better list of places to visit, with work, talking about a game you love? The only drawback is that you tend to have to have been an international cricketer to be considered for such a job
I realise the joy of cricket will perhaps be lost on a lot of you, I couldn’t possibly even begin to explain all the rules to you.

    Hi Laurence,

I suspect you already know my feelings on the recent crop of themed derbys

I lead a large competitive hood as you know, trying to hold down the frustrations caused by these Derbys is a bloody nightmare for me. The last three we have had only a possible 12 themed tasks - all long tasks. This time they’ve made it a possible 16 tasks by including strawberries way to go Supercell

For us, maybe 25 people looking for 16 possible high point tasks that take an age to complete without huge prep, is a nightmare (yes I know we can take 320 tasks and lower our standards, drop our high leaderboard position etc -not gonna happen for our group!) It isn’t just big super competitive hoods that are suffering though, everybody seems to be hating this string of awful themed Derbys. I know of great derby players who are quitting because they hate this. I cannot for the life of me understand what SC have to gain by designing Derbys that are so hated, and are driving players away.

Perhaps, astonishingly, they simply don’t understand or care how their own game impacts on players and neighbourhoods? I’d very much like to spend a little alone time with the person responsible, to erm.... discuss their thought process

Mdcfc:....”To be honest I find the US system confusing and confounding. With over 300 million people to chose from, how did you narrow it down to a choice between Clinton or Trump? I dont think you’ll find that many people in the Uk that admire our parliamentarians at least. It’s often said that the last person to enter parliament with honestly intentions was Guy Fawkes.”

I busted out out loud laughing at Guy Fawkes! I’m an American and I don’t even understand I system that well. The most I know about the UK parliament is that it was created during the war of the Roses because when one of the kings died and his son became king he brought back his best friend from exile and wasn’t making the best decision for his country and people got fed up with him. Honestly I’m in love with British history.
