But this isn't social media. Unless it is and I am using it wrong...

You can add to the discussion, or you can add reputation to the person to say... well done...

But to give likes... hmmmm. The fact is, there are many ideas that are fundamentally terrible that would get massive likes. If someone was to post that the company should give all players 2000 gems for free, then that post would lead the forums in likes even though it is actually a terrible idea.

So I guess I am a thumbs down?

There are a couple assumptions here. The first assumes that even though people are already ignoring a thread and not commenting on it, they will suddenly read it and give it a thumbs up if that option were available. The second assumes that liking a thread will cause the cream to rise to the top. That's the Reddit model, and IMO it doesn't look like it works as intended.

The Reditt top 5 list of highest voted Clash of Clans threads of all time are, in order:

    1. A screen capture of a text notification
    2. A drawing of a tablet in portrait mode or landscape mode
    3. A screen capture of a flag
    4. A video capture of a push trap
    5. A video capture of a commercial

FYI - scrolling down the top list doesn't get any better either.

    6. A picture of a kid in a costume
    7. A random message from someone asking his clan not to put him into the next Clan War
    8. A picture of a real-life wall
    9. A screen capture of a message posted to Tinder
    10. A screen capture of an "our village was attacked" mesage

Nothing now prevents people from replying to any suggestion with a simple acknowledgement such as: "+1 (10 char)". When people really love an idea I have seen them do exactly that.

Besides, your suggestion does nothing to prevent the "getting drowned" situation you noted, only replied to threads are bumped to the top. So those unreplied to threads would still be pushed down the heap. If an idea is really as good as the author believes it is, it will get response today.

    OP,

To add to the replies above, the IFR forum does not function in the way (aka ‘likes’) you’d expect: please read the ‘COC-IFR explained’ link below in my signature (it also re-links to an old discussion I had similar to yours), and you will see that independent of members replies, ideas ‘are’ reviewed; also that better described/worked ideas have more impact/effect.
    Good luck.

Now that's funny. Glad we don't have that feature for sure.

Isn't it? Community voting sounds good on paper, but when you see how it really gets used, you see an entirely different picture. I wasn't sure what I'd see as the highest voted threads, but I had a pretty good idea, because I've looked at things like that before. But even I was surprised that there isn't a single thread of value in the bunch. Screen shots or a single funny line seem to be gold to the voting crowd. And I have absolutely no idea why a personal message from a member to his clan would have received over 2,600 votes and be the 7th highest ranked thread of all time.

I remember time I looked at a "hot" post and it was total garbage, followed by dozens of people just writing "lol" over-and-over. Post, after post, after post were just lols, and each got a ridiculous amount of votes. Up voting someone for writing "lol?" Seriously?

Sooo, Ideas request.. Someone says Supercell should give us thousands of free gems.

That post would haunt the top of the page with like after like for months... even if it is a terrible idea...

    Completely agreed

But I never ment for it to run the way this forum works. I'm not saying to deny multi thread convoys to be above others but all I was instead of this mass line of disagreement it would be one exposing y and it would be liked! Making this Congo only a 2 post idea but instead its filled with people denying the idea and bad ideas take flight because of this. I don't understand y uz are so against it I feel as if it wouldent matter but help to syphen out the discrimination and push people to post new ideas and drive to implement better ideas and a cleaner activity plus's making the site easier to use all at the same time I understand entirely but yea never ment for it to take lead

As Sharky said in the very first response, vBulletin (the software these forums runs in) does not have the facility to have a "like" which works in the way you want.

Actually, I don't know of any forum software (as opposed to social media software) which does have a system where more heavily liked posts will appear first.

All that a like button does in any of the major forum softwares is to show against the post that it has received x many likes (and sometimes who it was that gave those likes). It never alteras where it gets displayed, so will make no difference at all to whether it gets swamped.
