As we already have tools in the game, each type of tool could have more or less effect on the different types of rocks e.g a pick will have 4 swings at the rock compared to the shovel that has 3. Granite rock could need 4 tool swings compared to sandstone that only needs 1.
The granite might hide a blue sapphire and the sandstone an opal...
This would definitly be a great change compare to what it is now... Wish this idea goes farther...
