    Introducing Mercenaries - Pay for troops with gold!

    For the longest of times your town has wondered what has been on the opposite side of the sea. Finally a brave explorer of yours has dared venture the unknown and it has rewarded you with mercenaries!


    Mercenaries are troops available through gold. They will spawn in a new "Barracks", the Mercenary Camp (Mercs for short).

    The Mercenary camp will be available at TH 9. Up to two will be available upon reaching TH 10.

    There will be 5 troops available:

    Spartan: A medium health troop who can reflect damage to defenders/attackers
    Samurai: A slow but powerful tank
    Black Wizard: A glass cannon (Extremely high damage, no health)
    Cleric: Unit that heals as well as attacks
    Vampire: A life stealing unit that when hit, transforms into a bat and moves around without being hit a couple of spaces

    I'm not a huge fan of spending gold for troops. But I like the concept.

    Wink Mercenary Barracks... what an awesome idea!!!

    I just had this exact same idea on my train ride home, I think it's great and there are so many possibilities.

    * They could be used in defense or attack, or strictly on defense if people are really picky about spending gold on attacking troops (why is this such a big deal, gold used to be spent on spells for offensive purposes only).

    * They could be totally new troops, such as the ones suggested here or from the enumerous ideas on the new troop forum; or otherwise decided by SC; or just from the existing troop classes.

    * They could be Hero style units, only one Mercenary hired at any one time occupying the barracks, all with different abilities to choose from, some good for defense and others good for offense. They should thus be hidden from attackers and give an element of surprise if used in defense.

    I joined the forums just now to post this same idea, so I hope by responding here the idea gets bumped and I hope my added ideas help. =)

    I think this is a good idea but your troops sound alot like what we already have
    Spartan is barb, Samurai is Giant, Black Wizard is Wizard, Cleric is Ground Healer although Vampire is pretty original

    maybe spice it up a bit
    Spartan: A fighting Troop with a sword and shield there shield reduces damage from any bow style attack(xbow archer or archer tower) or any mele attack (clan castle troops)
    Samurai: A duel sword wielding giant with high health and bonus damage to defensive Structures (2x)
    Black Wizard: A master of the dark arts shoots a beam at the target it wishes to destroy it builds up doing more damage the longer it is on a target (similar to an inferno tower)
    Cleric: Follows the closest unit and attacks the same building as it causing a healing aura around it

    Just my input on the idea.

    Lightbulb Further ideas for a Mercenary Barracks that hires "Hero" class troops.

    Stats for a Mercenary Barracks at different upgraded levels and ideas for "Hero" class units to occupy the barracks:


    Mercenary Barracks LVL 1: (TH 7+)
    Cost to Build: 500,000 elixir
    HP: 500
    Troop Capacity: 20


    Mercenary Barracks LVL 2: (TH 8+)
    Cost to Upgrade: 1,000,000 elixir
    HP: 1000
    Troop Capacity: 30


    Mercenary Barracks LVL 3: (TH 9+)
    Cost to Upgrade: 2,000,000 elixir
    HP: 2000
    Troop Capacity: 40


    Mercenary Barracks LVL 4: (TH 10+)
    Cost to Upgrade: 4,000,000 elixir
    HP: 3000
    Troop Capacity: 60


    Mercenary "Hero" units:
    Tier 1 ideas: (Housing space: 20)
    Cost to "Hire": 100,000 gold
    The Ninja - there are heaps of requests for a ninja style unit and with my alias being blackninja I can't help but entertain the idea of a mecenary ninja unit.

    Tier 2 ideas: (Housing space: 30)
    Cost to "Hire": 150,000 gold
    Raging Demon - casts rage spells like the healer casts heal spells (I read this troop idea somewhere as a dark elixir troop idea and I think it's an awesome idea)
    Black Wizard, Cleric


    Tier 3 ideas: (Housing space: 60)
    Cost to "Hire": 200,000 gold
    Vampire
    Hydra - stealing SpicyMooseSpit's idea, cause it's awesome!


    The troop capacity of the barracks is designed so that once fully upgraded it can hold three tier 1 mercenary units, two tier 2 units or one ultimate tier 3 mercenary. The different tier level troops unlock for "hire" as space becomes available, the cost to hire different troop types would have to be adjusted after some beta testing.

    Until walls could be upgraded with Elixir

    That was almost true, until walls could be upgraded with Elixir. Now, you can use both on defense. I'd actually prefer both on offense, so you are forced to attack to round out your resource expenditure.

    I love the concept!

    I love it but the troops are a little dull. If we are making troop suggestions I would like to offer my Satyr War Caller into that!
    Except my Satyr costs Dark Elixir instead of gold but that can be changed. Check my signature for details on him.

    Well I had the same idea too!

    Basic idea: Extra building (mercenary camp), buy troops using gold (because they are mercenaries)

    The troops available should add to the richness of CoC strategy, do not overlap already existing troops.

    The mercenary camp will have 9 regular troop slot and 1 seasonal troop slot. The regular troops will always be there once your mercenary camp reaches the corresponding level (just like barracks) but the seasonal troops can change from time to time. The seasonal troops can be event-themed troops (like Santa? LOL) or a troop Supercell want to test out.

    The troop cost is ideally in gold, but does not have to. In case the cost is elixir, the mercenary camp can act as a barrack extension.

    Some unique troops I have in mind:
    1) a tanking troop with half of giants health but can regenerate health (a Troll maybe?)
    2) a big troop with increasing damage as its health drops (A gorilla maybe?)
    3) a flying troop with a longer range and medium damage (a goblin gyrocopter maybe?)
