I was saying to someone earlier, you have a very difficult job here considering the age range is from 13 (I think) to 113 and you need to consider the young and old. Not an easy juggling act so I appreciate the effort you guys put in.

I have absolutely no doubt that we (the community) and the mods are dealing with kids much younger than 13, even if it does break the ToS. Some kind of age verification would be nice, but I know that's a pipe dream.

Yeah, I know. I think you need to add your DOB in when you sign up but of course it’s impossible to verify. Take me for example, I’m 6 years old now and was 1 when I signed up. According to the forum, I’m actually 73.

Given the argument that has been taking place, I also have no doubt some are much younger than 13

Physically, you’re right. However I was referring to my mental age.

They sure do know how much I drink. They buy it for me. Unfortunately not many places accept my fake ID because it says I’m former PM Winston Churchill. I really should have splashed out a few quid more for a better one.

Makes sense really, I know someone who actually downvoted a particular moderator, legitimately, and man the blowback, even from Darian, was pretty intense. I guess this makes sense in order to protect the mods. Oh well, I guess the elitist attitude of "how dare you not to the line in your thinking" is not dead. Really did not expect anything different once I was made aware of the story I was was made aware of. Again, this is only my opinion based on the corrupt system this forum follows. (we need a tinfoil hat emoji)

I have personally downvoted some orange badged posts that I felt were overly hostile. Never received any such blowback.... perhaps his down rep was, in fact, unwarranted? In which case he deserved said blowback.

Before I comment on the below posts, I’ll just make a general comment.

There are a lot of posts in here saying it helped the community with ‘mini-modding’. When the reputation system was first introduced, I made sure to add something along the lines of “Negative reputation is not a substitute for reporting” in the thread.

So neg rep was removed as it was being abused and a burden on the moderators’ time. However, recently we’ve also lost the CR forums (which by the mod squad’s own opinions was the most toxic area of the forums) and also a pastime which we shall not mention.

Unless I’ve missed something, the moderator team is the same size.

So do we need more moderators? I have no doubt the role is a drain on their time, but maybe a couple more orange badges may ease the burden. I’m sure there’s a few blue badges or long term folk here who would fit the bill.

Oh, and when I say ‘long term folk’, I’m not trying to infer anything or surreptitiously put my name in the frame. In fact, I think there’s more chance of a Baba Ji love spammer being asked to join the orange badged team than me. And I’d have to agree with them.

I love Haze posts. This may dominate my shrine of intellectual, well written posts, and I can’t agree more.

Why is the mod squad the current size? There are 10s of GASPs who are willing (at a guess) and many long term members.

And IDC I’m bringing it up. The CR forums closing, for me sad but I never knew it. The rep change, a delicious that hurts a majority to suit a minority. And TvMs. I still don’t want to talk about them, but Jesus. I still disagree with a choice which should’ve been made years ago. Why now?

Its linked to ONE thing. A lack of moderators. We have the team, but the team isn’t enough to cope with a massive forum. 10ish members coping with 1000s of posts/reports daily? Increase the size. Simples. Or make a helper system. Not a mod, not a member.

As for there here not being enough moderators. The reported posts don’t usually sit untouched more than a few hours. And the Game Specialists have other means of contacting us outside the forum if it’s something urgent. You are right about the closing of the CR forums, we do have more time to focus on the other games. I know I certainly do spend more time on the CoC forum now. We actually have really good coverage right now, the best since I became a mod.

You said the difference for the orange badged team between dealing with VMs, PMs and posts, and for dealing with neg rep was ‘astronomical’. Can I ask in what way?
