I agree the best plan is to upgrade to Bh8. There is no disadvantage, only advantages. As for catching or getting ahead, SC did hold off on Bh8 long enough for free players to max out Bh7 (other than maybe walls, I’m not sure on that). I suspect the delay before Bh9 hits will be long enough for free players to max out Bh8 including walls. That has been the plan that has worked well on Th all these years. Let the gemmers get off to a free start and some early trophy pushing season wins, but hold back on new content long enough to let the free players catch up.

Contact SC here. Click here for how trophies are calculated. An idea to improve legends here. I wish max players had a separate loot bank as described here. Caution, I often discuss for the sake of discussion and enjoy having my opinion challenged (or approved of) even when I care little about the actual issue. My balance wish: get rid of tornado trap, make it a decoration.

This only holds true if you are insistent on pushing. If you find your natural balance spot in trophies, you face people within a close range of your own level. It's not exciting, but it is fair.

Anyone who says you need to upgrade the BH right away is lending weight to the opinion that the matchmaking is broken. Why do you have to upgrade right away? Because if you don't, you will be overpowered. If you do, you can overpower people and climb.

In other words, it is an exploit of a broken facet of the game.

Like giving out a 12 hour shield for putting your town hall in a corner.

Why was that one addressed and not this (a simple weighting of buildings within trophy ranges would provide better competition as one player won't have to destroy three extra buildings to achieve parity of scale at the onset)?

Simple reason...giving out a 12 hour shield for town hall sniping didn't lead to players spending money while a broken matchmaking system will see frustrated players toss gems at it.
It's not an exploit, it's how the game is designed. Stop being stuck in HV mindset, BHB is different and required different strategy.
You don't rush to th11 in HV for the same reason you do not max each BH when you can upgrade BH. They are strategies that don't work well so don't do then.

That applies to every game where you can upgrade stuff. If you don't want to spend the time or money to upgrade stuff as fast as players that do, you will always be behind until you max.

I would agree with you, but I have a feeling that the people facing me that can rarely get a 50% 1 star on my base while I get a 3 star with ease would disagree with you.

In what universe does a fair game penalize you for being more skilled than your opponent, because that is essentially what it boils down too. If all other things are even, you will win with more skill which just moves you up in trophies until you reach a point that your skill cannot overcome the offense and defensive advantages your opponent holds.

The matchmaking system is horribly designed with numerous flaws and the only one winning is SC from all the people that spend gems on it.

    2222 says it all here
I'm a f2p player and adopted the upgrade BH asap strategy from the start, been only good for me and I maxed close to everything at BH7 while waiting for BH8. I used the Clan Games rewards on BHB to get instant lvl8 and instant 6th AC and instant Drop Ship L15
that got me ahead of 80% of the player base and I rocketed to 4800 cups raising my loot cap yet more.
Now I'm ahead and I stay ahead because while everybody is busy upgrading, only gemmers can overtake me, and I can live with that. Yeah, I don't win all the battles now and, yeah, I drop 150 cups at times, but it doesn't matter much, I get back up and nearly always stay at the second highest loot cap.
    Very enjoyable.

Not even a BH5. I'm a BH4 at roughly 1500-1600 cups and nearly all my attacks are mostly BH5s. Boom, boom, boom from their mortar and my attacks are done. To expect the mm to be any better by upgrading is a farce. I've placed the BH outside in the attempt to drop trophies and it hasn't made anything better.

lol. Let us know how leaving BH out and waiting for the trophies just to drop by themselves works for you....

MM is not going to be impacted by upgrading anything in itself. The matching is impacted by winning or losing. Upgrading makes winning easier for the trophy level you are at however eventually you are going to get back to a 50/50 success rate anyways. But you will be higher in trophies and loot reward than where you were. That's why we upgrade stuff...

You are correct the MM won't change if you upgrade your hall. The MM stays the same. What changes is even without any added skill you will move up in trophies, which allows you to obtain more loot from your three wins per day, which allows you to upgrade faster, which allows you to move up in trophies without any increased skill, which allows you to obtain more loot from your three wins per day, which alllows....you see where this is going.
