Whats the (Daily) Dirt on ads?

    Just wondering about the paper.

Why is it we never get to see our own ads? (Or do we?).

Ive only seen one ad of mine and that was my very first. I know it was mine cos I saw my avatar...it stood out as it was the only one there.

Are there more than one paper being circulated?
if so, how many, and how?

How often or in what time frame is the paper changed? (Or when 'new' sales appear).

    Just plain curious.

I haven't timed the refresh time. One trick though is to close the Hay Day app and reopen it. It will give you a new paper.

The paper refreshes every 3 minutes. Ads will remain and recirculate for either 3 hours or until the item advertised is sold. There are likely hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of newspaper versions.

There are millions of players producing millions of ads every minute. An ad is grabbed from the players IP, sent to one of their wifi provider's several servers, and then forwarded to one of Hay Days several incoming servers. These millions of ads are randomly mixed and matched and placed in hundreds of thousands of iPad or iPhone paper formats and redistributed to each of Hay Days several outgoing servers to be forwarded to the thousands of wifi provider servers and further distributed back to millions of user's IPs.

If I have the same wifi provider as someone living in the same town and under the influence of the same cell tower, I may get a very similar version, but it will be totally different from that of someone in a different state, or a different provider, and most certainly different from someone in another country.

I actually highly doubt that I'd get the same paper as someone in the same exact circumstances as me...similar at best is my guess. If we got input from two people living in the same house and using the same wifi, playing at the same time while sitting on the same couch, playing on the same type of device, and both opening the newspaper at the same time, I'm still pretty sure the odds of them having the same DD version would be extremely small.

you are correct Cricks. My husband and I, both in the same house, both on iPads get different versions of the newspaper. We often play together and I cannot remember us ever having the same ads.

Holy cow! Amazing then you write it like that lol! But ur right about the last part. Sometimes when I'm looking for a specific item I'll be browsing on both my accounts with both phone and tablet at the same time. First off, my tablet account is lower level than phone account so I can't see ads for unlocked items on tablet. Secondly, I get to see many more ads on each addition on my tablet vs. phone.

Answering OP: I've seen my own ad 2 times but it was back when I first started playing over a year ago. There wasn't as many players as there is today so the chance of catching your own ad these days are probably much slimmer.

Thanks for the compliments...I was a bit concerned that it wasn't clear enough on how things worked. Whew, glad it is. It's, of course, simplified and a server expert is probably choking on breakfast reading it, but if it gets enough of the concept out to relieve some frustration and stress over the DD...well, that's the point, and I'm glad the question was asked and gave me the opportunity.

EDIT: Just to add another aspect: I believe this revolving and passing through multiple servers is also why you sometimes get a brand new DD but find some items already sold out. While most ads in the issue come directly to you, those have just been to another player first who bought something. It was then redirected to mingle into your DD before being recycled back to SC.

Plus the ads I believe are different according to your level in the game.
My daughter and I sit on the couch and play a lot (hence my new nickname of Couch Captain) and there have been times when I've seen one of the farms I am following come up in the dirt, and tried to see if my daughter could follow this person too, but she never saw the ad even though the product hadn't been bought. I've never seen my own ad but one of my friends saw hers.

It is NOT a nickname...merely an observation!
