After 3 star'ing a TH10 with a very expensive army, I believe I should have got more than 200k gold from the storages. I checked my opponents base after victory and found out he was holding more than 7 million gold. Losing 200k gold is nothing when he can get it back in one raid.
The loot cap is fine for two storages as that will protect low level players but when it comes to high TH lvl with the two extra storages it becomes difficult to get the maximum gold allowed from the storages as TH10/TH9/TH8 will spread the storages around their base making it harder to get around all of them. You will always have to 2 star or 3 star a TH9/10 base to get 200k gold from the storages if they are well defended.
I believe Supercell should look into this and fix it asap. The cap should be based on number of storages which will mean more TH9/TH10 bases can become farmable with expensive troops. Farming low level players and going for collectors can get boring, attacking storages and while at the same time destroying their base is fun. This TH9/10 loot crisis will ease with this suggestion.
IMO it should be 100k gold cap per storages, this will protect low level players and give high level farmers extra incentive to attack well defended, high TH level players. It will also make farming and trophy pushing at Crystal and beyond possible and enjoyable.
How will it work?
Currently the loot cap is at 200k gold.
TH7 have 2 storages, so the amount of loot you can steal for TH7 and below will remain unchanged. But for TH8 and beyond will be able to lose 300-400k gold max.
2 Storage - 200k Gold Cap
3 Storage - 300k Gold Cap
4 Storage - 400k Gold Cap
