I’ll start.
Not too long ago, my NH of only 4 players went down to 3, so I began to look for new members, while still keeping it small. I invited a player from my in-game friend book, and soon received a message. They were not too sure if they were the right type of player for our NH, as their RL was quite busy and not much time for the derby.
I had not had much luck on others I had invited, but I got a really good feeling about this player. I appreciated the honesty, and that they knew what they wanted to get out of the game. They play to reduce stress, not add to it. We agreed to have them join our hood, no promises or hard feelings if things didn’t work out.
This player quickly became a key player for us, even while opted-out of derbys. They supplied staple items when we ran low, filled boat orders, etc. We reciprocated by improving their town, that was much ignored because of never having a NH to make it fun. We all shared expansion material and products as in any NH. We were becoming HD family.
This past week we asked about their RL schedule and if they might like to try to derby. And it was agreed that we would all participate. We explained our tried and true methods and adapted a few, and agreed that the goal was to earn all of the horseshoe prizes. We wanted it to be as stress free as possible.
This player was AWESOME!! They asked all the right questions, followed our joint plan to the tee, and had a great deal of fun.
I have played since December of 2013, have most of my achievements and masteries, and I still enjoy playing by making personal goals. But I will say that I received the most joy and happiness from seeing this player (hoodmate) have and express their excitement of being part of our NH, and having thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
I think I have already received the best Christmas gift ever. Just knowing in a small way that I have made a difference, and that a player has found new ways to enjoy and continue the game, all while staying true to themselves.
To all my HD friends, may your hearts always be filled with joy and love.
