I think it could be very effective to use this second layer and close the outside-- If they do get in, they'll just go back out. The same goes for barbs/pekkas/ect. So, if someone can fugure out how to close this off, i think it will work very, very well.
Yea, I had a long look on the design and gotta say, it's genious

On the first look, it looks like a ripe cherry for plucking, but the way the buildings are placed, it messes with the AI so bad, that it's a wonder that the attacker's units don't turn on eachother when they can't figure a way in

Everyone's invited! Course there is no such thing as "best base", but when the purpose of the design is clear, one can do wonders, I've noticed.

Yep. Core determines what is gonna be in the next layer, so that first

Soooo, everyone working on the project, what are your thoughts for a core?

I like the ninja star type core or the one on my current (which may be a little too big), and I also like OJM's originally posted one....AAHHH so many choices.

It may help to write out pros and cons of each type.

Pick your favorite ones and quote them all in one post and we'll analyze them all

LOL thanks. One danger of using a base like that is you get zapped a lot more, because the attacked gets ♥♥♥♥♥♥

As for the core, I would say not too big, maybe max 6x6. Ill do a pros and cons of the list you made, cake in a bit.

Ok, let's see what we got here
#1 Core. 2 side by side +, so a 4x4 with corners tucked in.
+ Ton of firepower against goblins from wizards
Assuming xbows go to middle where the archers are now,
If aimed up, air and ground attacks kept well away from core. Outer layers not quite as well protected from ground attacks.
If aimed ground, air attacks might make a mess in core but outer layers pack lot more firepower on ground.
AQ breaching the nearby cloisters handled by xbows and worst case scenario, half gold & dlix.

#2 and 4 are the same, only the location of the dlix varies.
2x2 plus the arms, so also a 4x4 tucked even more in.
If dlix in the middle, lightning strikes get some gold but prevents multiple gold containers getting shot from one side.
Xbows up protect from air while xbows on ground give great cover to whole base.
Compact core that allows wizards, mortars and ADs (2 of 3) get near the core.
No goblin protection if breached from inside.

    #3 Simple 3x3
Lightning strikes gets gold for sure.
    Same as #2 with xbows.
Mortar provides some cover to the middle layer but useless on air attacks.
Very limited goblin protection inside the core from inside.
Depending on the direction of breach, AQ can get half gold and all DE.
Could replace mortar with a single AD and aim xbows ground

From my experience, the #1 core is most self sufficient, so the layers around that, albeit also very important, play bit smaller role on the core defence from the sheer size of the core. #2/4 need the support of the outer layers more closely, but because of it's shape, cloistering & staggering the next layer is easy. #3 will be difficult to stagger the junctions, but from the experience on my own builds, it doesn't matter that much when you get your walls and defences well upgraded.
