    Hey john.
I really want to finish with these 12 special fish and most of what I have left is the golds. Do they do different from the other two weights. I like the 4 golds and the bronze of the carp

I love this event. I can positively say that even the gold weights can be caught with green and blue lures, no need for purple or gold.

Is there any way to see the difference between a Zander and a Carp?
I have all my Zanders (yeah!) but still need 2 Carp medailles (silver and gold).
Problem is I only catch Zanders??

The same question I have with the Giant Barb and the Lake Sturgeon.
Any way to know the difference between the two?

Sure! I'll try my best to tell you more about their behaviors!

Well, I can't really comment on some of the fishes because I did not really notice their behavior. But, I can tell you how the behaviors of the Speckled Dace and Brook Trout are like, since they are such a pain to catch!

I'll talk about the Speckled Dace first - so far, it's only found in area 6 and can only be caught with a gold lure when there is a small inner ring. However, seeing a small inner ring doesn't mean it's a Speckled Dace - it could be a Greater Redhorse or a (C)Rudd. You will notice that both the Greater Redhorse and (C)Rudd will attempt to escape slowly, while the Speckled Dace will attempt to get away very quickly. So in other words, if the fish you're trying to catch moves and tries to get away very quickly, it's most likely a Speckled Dace!

Now I'll talk about the Brook Trout! It's in area 8 and can be caught with either a green or blue lure. Once again, it has a small inner ring. Assuming you use a green lure, there are only two fishes which you will be able to catch when there is a small inner ring and that is either the Brook Trout or the (C)Rudd. Similar to the Speckled Dace, the Brook Trout will try to escape very quickly (in fact slightly quicker than the Speckled Dace in my opinion). The moment you notice that the fish attempts to get away slowly, you should just lift your finger and let the fish go because it's definitely a (C)Rudd.

I hope this helps you and many of the other fishers trying to catch the Speckled Dace and Brook Trout!

    John.
Thanks John! Hmm I'm not very lucky with catching the Yellow Perch and Northern Pike though :P. I guess I'll get lucky eventually but I'll put the catching of those fishes on hold first while I attempt to catch as many "Heavy Weight" event fishes as I can :P!

    Gold weight lake sturgeon

    Attachment 25834Hi John,
Just caught a gold weight lake sturgeon in area 4 with a blue lure. And I am also very pleased to report it appears to be a new record, yay!!!!!!! (11.837lb)
Sorry, I'll have to bump off Archermike, he's like my fishing hero . Can I pls be put on the table, have a feeling the record will be broken again any minute and would like my 5 mins of fame . Thanks!

Dang it! Just tried attaching my pic and it's giving me some msg about quota exceeded. Will have to trawl thru the threads to find out how to delete or manage pics or whatever.

*EDIT* Right, think I got that sorted and hoped it's attached now. So THAT'S why some older posts don't show some uploaded pics! (Duh!)

Well, the speckled dace info definitely helps me! Tried and got fooled by a greater redhorse even though I was like 100% sure I had hooked the right one yesterday AND had released my catches like 100 times before finally hauling the trickster out of the water. Will be trying again after the event, trying to finish that 6000lb achievement, have "just" 1000lb to go . Thanks for the info!

Congrats on that one, and thanks for the extra info as well for the gold area, I'll add that as well..

Any other gold area fish areas from anyone would be a big help to us all to achieve all 12 awards..

It seems we are all looking for those gold awards, and I am only just starting to add the gold awarded areas to the table.. Will try to update as fast as they come in.. As with the normal fish, you cannot tell which one is which, but you can use the pictures in the scrapbook as a rough guide.
