Need gem use advice, please :)

Hi, I'm new here so I apologize if this is in the wrong category :/

A bit of information on my game: I'm a level 80 Town Hall 9, 5 builders with all level 7 walls, level 5 air defenses, level 6 wizard towers and mortars, level 1, 2 and 3 Teslas (I know, as well as level 10 archer towers and cannons.

I'm about to go on a trophy hunt to Crystal I, and I'm getting 14,000 gems to use on my base which I'd prefer to use on the mortars or wizard towers. I will be buying resources as I don't have time to gem troops and raid. So I think I'll have enough gems to buy resources for all wizard towers to level 7 or all mortars to level 7 and maybe some gems left over. I won't be gemming the time though (even though I said I will be buying the resources because I don't have the time to gem troops haha

My my question to you is which would be more beneficial at Crystal I, all wizard towers or all mortars?

One level more on either your WT or Mortar is not going to be a deal breaker at Crystal 1. To be honest I cant think of a bigger waste of gems than BUYING the resources to upgrade those.

I mean that in all sincerity and with a view to helping you....it's just NOT WORTH it. Your attacking power and ability to keep attacking is the best way to stay higher in trophies, and I know you said you weren't going to gem barracks....

What is it about Crystal 1 in particular that makes it your goal?

I appreciate your input very much! Crystal 1 is my goal I guess because Crystal 2 was my last record. So you're saying its better to spend gems on upgrading troops (I'm guessing this because of where you said "attacking power"?)

I don't think thats what he meant. Town hall 9 trophy hunters get pummeled by town hall 10's at a certain trophy level. If you want to get to crystal I, then your defenses arent going to be as crucial as your ability and skill as a player to attack. If id go trophy hunting, id only use my gems to skip the training time of troops or spells. Using it on resources is a big waste.

That is partly what I meant....in that, if you upgrade your troops with gems it's one of the best uses imo...personally, I think gemming troops to raid faster is best use of them to get resources...as opposed to buying resources...

But in terms of speeding things up...you will gain far more in the short term AND long term from using the gems to upgrade troops faster in the lab than you will buying resources in a one off purchase. Each troop allows you to gain more resources EVERY time you use that troop from now on, and every day saved in the lab with gems has a knock on effect of making all the subsequent upgrades arrive that same amount quicker...unless you gem them all and then have idle lab time

Now, gemming the time for defensive upgrades works the same way...however, it does not make AS big a difference in your ability to SAVE resources as improving your army helps gain them.
