Unfortunately, players who buy gems are looked down upon, just like the people who can afford to ride around in helicopters are looked down upon --for being shrewd enough in their life decisions to not have to follow the same path of those that have no clue what winning really is.
Do you know why gemmers tend to have higher cups? Well, let me tell ya, it's not because they bought em. They get a lot more practice than non-gemmers. Ya know why? They aren't sitting there trying to make friends while their troops build. While you're climbing the damn mountain (after all, you have nothing else to do as you listen to the tick tock of the echoing clock), their troops are building substantially faster than yours. Gemmers get to enjoy the game and gain pride in the success that comes from trying out the many troops combinations. What are nongemmers doing? Well, like me, I get to wait, wait, wait, and wait. Do you think I haphazardly chose to use the word four times?
Buy their way into the game!!! They raid for what they have!
