How about upgrading hero from experience? It's a bit strange that hero only can be upgraded by DE. And it takes a very lonnggggg time!!!!! I think nobody can max them without gem. Killing higher hero give experience etc. Supercell don't receive profit only from gem right? but from how active a player don't they?

This is a good idea, but you'd also have to fix the issue of respawn times increasing proportionate to both damage and health rather than just health, because right now it's not worth upgrading your heros if you attack a lot. I have loads of DE (close to 200K), but stopped at 5 for BK, and I'm not ranking my AQ at all.
