Guide on how to search for base designs

Lately we have seen a lot of new threads asking for bases in BD101, this may annoy the people who have been here longer sharing bases, giving feedback, etc.

I also know that there are a lot of complaints about the search bar not giving good results and sometimes completely off topic. And AFAIK no-one really committed to making a "how to use the search bar"-thread, I'm willing to make one for this subforum.

So here i am trying to explain how to use the search bar to find bases effectively.
PS this is made for the desktop version (firefox, IE and Edge), not for the mobile version of the forums!
PPS can someone try this for Chrome?

We all know the search bar has an advanced search option, but this doesn't give us the results we want, therefore we need a little trick not a lot of people know.

1. Let us start with clicking that link. This will bring us to the following page:


You might be thinking: "How is that going to help? It is still the same search function but now you can add a few more parameters."
And that's where you are wrong Kiddo!

2. Now you'll have to check off Posts, like I did on the previous image. This doesn't change anything at first sight.
3. Next thing you'll need to do is go from Search Single Content Type to Search Multiple Content Type and back, if everything went right you'll see the next screen:


Suddenly there are 3 more search parameters you can use to specify your search! these are Forums, Prefix and x amount of replies.
ISN'T THAT WONDERFUL?

If you're to lazy to use these steps you can simply search for this adress:

4. Let me make an example: I'm in search for a townhall 9 DE farm base without xbows (so basically an 8.5 base)

I'll use the following keywords: th8.5, DE protection, no xbows (more keywords = less results)
Leave open username since you want as much results as possible.
Tags aren't necessary since most of us don't use them.

Then we need to indicate a few parameters at additional options.
Search in Forum(s) = Base Design 101
Search by Prefix = [Town Hall 9]

You don't want to use the x amount of replies since it will thin out search results even more

the search will look something like this:


Press search now and if needed pass the human verification test. this will show up:
you'll find around 20 search results: some of them are actual bases but the majority of them are base requests (which explains why the BD101 vets are tired of these posts)

You either click on one of the base threads and search for a .5 variant in the thread or click on another request thread and check out the answers in that thread, cause most of us will keep giving the same answer over and over and over again ( or trolls like me who say that you should use the search bar)


I hope this thread was helpful and will be used. I also hope this thread will end the flood of base request threads as well as the troll answers on these threads.

I keep on hearing the same complaint everytime we ask people to use the search bar (isn't reliable, doesn't work, ...).

going to try this out as a sticky for a bit in place of the old outdated ones we had. Changed the title to more accurately reflect the purpose of the thread.

if you want a decent base thread, you can definitely adjust the number of replies. I'd say a minimum of 10
